Once again the baby boomers are breaking new ground for the next generation to follow. Our health and longevity depends upon us making the tough decisions easier, along with a desire for independent thinking and choosing options for us that we can feel good about. Money is not the issue it was twenty or thirty years ago and we have witnessed people losing their dreams and careers, jobs disappearing promise lost and surviving still due to family bonding together and pure cold hard determination.
Priorities are changing and survivability takes on new meaning. Maintaining our health and achieving some sort of peace is becoming more important. Having come through difficult times relatively unscathed, prosperity intact, we realize that without our health and longevity to enjoy it, money and assts have less desirability. Oh sure, we still need it, but perhaps we aren’t willing to risk everything to have it. There are more important things in life and we want the intangible.
Over hundreds of years humankind has depended upon at first, the medicine man, now the medical professional for our health and well being. We blindly took whatever medicine was given to us doing exactly as instructed never once questioning it. This is changing. Blind faith in the medical profession is a thing of the past. Just ask anyone with a chronic condition that is managed but not cured. Years of living with hope, grateful for life but determined for a cure that never happens. We realize the importance of good health and do what is necessary to live as long as we can. We do this realizing that there might just be other alternative means.
Boomers are taking responsibility for their well being and longevity like never before. They once said we wanted it all and now we only want what we have a right to; good health and the independence to achieve it anyway we can. As we age, we realize we need to eradicate the toxins that have accumulated from years of neglect and life in general. We have ingested many prescription drugs and eaten poor food, our sleep habits are terrible and we have endured incredible stress and continuous anxiety.
It starts with diet. We are changing what we eat, partly out of necessity since we could never continue eating the way we once did. But our attitude toward what we eat has shifted; our diet is more of a lifestyle change that includes eating well. We now consume foods that our nourishing and easier on our digestive tract. We now understand that we feel better when our weight is manageable and we can do this by eating healthier foods. Those who do not modify their diets will perish early, it is simple really. It is a stark realization when you reach a certain age – change or give up the ghost early.
So we eat better and read labels more closely, we call it cheating now when we eat food that thirty years ago was a daily routine. We avoid food that contains too many chemicals, artificial this or that. Some of us steer clear of foods with faces or food that is loaded with hormones and losing weight becomes easier. Our body is nourished with essential nutrients it requires and we feel satisfied and there is less cause to eat like a teenager.
We also understand there is a need for more serenity in our lives and we are determined to relax more and quiet our active minds. Where we once relaxed with booze or recreational pharmaceuticals [you know who you are…], we now try and reach new levels of relaxation from more traditional methods of meditation and relaxation techniques.
Cancer and diabetes among other age related illnesses are the enemy and we strive to understand more about them. Why is there no cure for these yet? Where the major breakthroughs like there has been for polio and other life threatening diseases. We used to be able to celebrate disease eradication. The older we get the less likely there will be a breakthrough we can benefit from so that leaves us with fewer options for longevity. That means we turn to natural, more traditional alternatives. This means making our health a priority and being sure that what goes into our bodies will not shorten our lives.
The products we need are more expensive and take a bit longer to locate so maybe we bypass them and opt for the easy reach and unhealthy choice. In limited number we have determined the benefits of the harder to reach products and so they cost more. It is this segment of an aging population that has made their health and longevity a top priority. The cost of the hard to reach items would drop if more people would demand the healthier choices; we have allowed the inexpensive and unhealthy to determine how we will live.
Baby boomers are striving for immortality – or at least extended life spans and there is change in the wind. Slowly and surely the second greatest generation is prioritizing and having a second look at the choices available to them. They desire happiness and longevity and this means living independently in their own homes for as long as possible and they will do so as healthy mature seniors. Rather than becoming anxious over life in a nursing home or living their golden years alone and in misery, boomers are making the sensible decision to change things now to have a better quality of life in just a few years.
Never before have health and wellness programs and systems been available as they are today. There are so many unique ways to restore our health and well being. There are novel methods to improve our odds of longevity for every part of our bodies. It is about moderation, rejuvenation and restoration for life extension.
These days’ boomers are more inclined to purchase one piece of natural clothing rather than three pieces of synthetic imported fashion from a country that probably uses harmful chemicals it means we will be healthier. Change is taking place as our bodies return to being the temple they were originally intended to be as a God given request. If we consume food that is better for us we find we do not need as much of it. Our body will make its own determination how it will respond from a physiological perspective, based on the food we give it to perform. Cell regeneration and metabolization are a part of that. We need to feed it well and it will respond in kind.
Our body will repulse any food or drink that is filled with artificial elements, hormone chemicals and additives. If it does not receive what it requires in adequate nutrition, it balks, and when the body balks it usually hurts us. We eat more and gain weight when we do not take the time to carefully choose our menu. Our digestive tract becomes overwhelmed by toxins and any reserve energy we have is utilized in fighting off the effects of our poor nutrition. We become couch potatoes since we have no zest for anything else. So many of us learn this the hard way for the most part.
So let’s evaluate shall we…
• You consume physician prescribed medication and feel worse for doing so. You have pain like never before, poor sleep habits and take antidepressants. More medical visits, tests, CAT scans, MRI’s and blood work and you still do not have any answers that cure you. You ask why not?
• You ate like a teenage for most of your adult life and purchased inexpensive food laden with chemicals and additive, refined beyond any food value. You ate more of it to feel fulfilled and gained weight because of this. Your energy level is in the pits and you feel generally lousy. You seek help from your doctor and ask what the problem is?
• You tried to save money by purchasing inexpensive, synthetic clothing that when it laid against your skin on a daily basis you broke out in a rash and itchy skin, causing you to buy over the counter topical remedies to alleviate the problem to no avail. You seek out the help of a dermatologist since the problem worsens and will not heal and you ask them what the problem is.
• You wash your hair using cheap shampoo made from artificial chemicals with dyes and fragrance and your once beautiful hair just cannot take the punishment so it gets brittle, there is breakage and it looks really rough. O you go and purchase conditioner and shampoo that claims to help but it is loaded with dyes fragrances and artificial chemicals and they do not help. Instead you have to wear your hair shorter than you like. Your hair is migrating and not returning so you ask at the hair dresser or your doctor, can you help me, what is the problem?
• You bath or shower a minimum of once daily using soap laden with chemicals, skin softeners, artificial dyes and coloring and then spread lotion on yourself that is just as toxic. Your daily shower is only causing more damage to your existing health problems with hair and body toxicity as you repeat the vicious cycle. The more chemicals you wear eat and spread on your body, the more toxins you build up.
This cycle is all contributing to your current quest for a healthier you and you are determined to do what it takes to make it right. So you take responsibility for yourself and this means an entire modification of your lifestyle for the good of your health and longevity starting now. It is never too late to get healthy.
You need to begin by realizing you have to make the changes necessary to achieve your goal of longevity and health. Begin to acquire the knowledge you need to initiate changes. Start reading labels and purchase food and other items that do not have additives – this is huge. Purify the water you drink by filtering it to aid in flushing toxins from your body. Begin to do more physical activity…anything to get active and continue it. Stiffen your resolve for the challenge of living a longer and healthier life.
