People have abandoned the Paleo diet for mass produced food and a sedentary lifestyle. The Paleo diet is also called the caveman diet or Paleolithic diet. In the Hunter-gatherers society, some 2 million years ago, humans consumed natural foods; fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts and eggs. It was a diet low in carbohydrates and high in proteins and animal fats. In such a society, diabetes, cancer and heart disease is believed to have been rare. The modern diet and lifestyle give people exposure to modern diseases.

In fact, it is possible to avoid the usual aging-related disease by simply adopting a healthy lifestyle and diet. Yet, the modern society tempts us to consume junk food and beverages, which are unhealthy. In addition, unhealthy food seems to be cheaper due to the mass production approach used, involving even GM foods. For the economy mass production of food is a good thing, but the real price is being paid by downgraded human health.

Government intervention on the subject of healthy food is highly subjective and distorted. It seems that the state is more interested in poisoning us than curing the food industry.

Facts: Government Promote Unhealthy Food

If we look at the Modern American society, we see more people becoming obese, year on year. Diseases are also distressing younger adults and even in some cases affecting children. This applies to illness such as heart disease and diabetes, not to mention cancer. This is the real case scenario despite that people have more awareness on health than ever before.

In economic terms, it makes sense to subsidize unhealthy food. It will bring profit in various ways; first food becomes cheap, secondly people start falling sick and this is followed by a win-gain position for the medical industry.

Some Examples:

In the past FDA had considered walnuts as being an effective drug, but when Diamond food, Inc provided scientific evidence of the benefits of walnuts on their webpage. The company was forced to remove the information from their webpage, and if they didn’t they would be faced with risk of being out of business. At the same time, FDA permitted Frito Lay to post claims that deep fried carbohydrate-laden chips were healthy. In other words, the stronger your lobbyist is the more likely are you to promote your products.

On Life Extension Legislation, we can find some interesting facts on the support of these FDA legislation.

But we always have choice, Dr. Michael Rose suggests that a hunter-gatherer lifestyle can actually end aging. It helps to prevent most health predicaments; cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

Well known dieticians such as Kerri-Ann Jennings, M.S., R.D., who is the associate Nutrition Editor from the EatingWell Magazine says that herbs and species don’t only add taste to food. In healthy diets, people should reduce sugars, slats and saturated food, but why not add up some spicy & health herbs.

Slowly progress in science research is finding the real benefits of spices and herbs. Apparently, herbs seem to be a strong protective attribute to various alarming diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. Professor Bharat Aggarwal, Ph.D., from the University of Texas M.D says that modern science is finally being able to shed light on the reason why people have been using species and herbs for medication for millenniums.

In Aggrawal’s home-country India, there is a low risk of heart disease and cancer. This is associated with their extensive use of spices in various food menus. However, most of the Indians who have moved to a westernized eating pattern have experienced a higher incidence of these very same diseases. Apparently, when people eat less spicy food, they are deprived from the protective attributes provided by the herbs and spices. In other words, this explains why the Indian, who has adopted a westernized diet (defined as being fattier and meatier) is more prone to diseases.

The 8 healthiest herbs and Spices

1.	Chile Peppers – Boost Metabolism

Research has shown that the wanted heat of chilly tend to enhance our metabolism. Components known as capsaicin, chipotle and cayenne provide this fresh aspect of papers. Various research shows that capsaicin actually help the body to burn up calories (boost the metabolic rate). This equally helps the brain to stimulate chemicals to make us less hungry. A recent study found that people who ate hot spicy pepper tomato juice consumed 16 percent less calories. The second compound known as capsinoids, present in milder chile and also in sweet paprika reduces the risk of ulcers. It induces enhanced ability to the cells in the stomach to tackle infections and bacteria. It equally helps the heart to stay tuned by preventing LDL cholesterol from being converted into artery-clogging forms.

2.	Ginger – Help To reveal Upset Stomach / Fight Arthritis

Ginger has since long been observed as a relief to the stomach problem. Yet, Ginger does much more; it helps to reduce nausea and to heal our body after chemotherapy or surgery. A component full of inflammation-fighting properties like gingerols does even reduce the risk of cancer aches of osteoarthritis.

In a study, it was found that if people consumed ginger capsules for 11 days, they experienced 25 percent less muscle pain, after doing exercise.

3.	Cinnamon – Regulates Blood Sugar

Several studies have shown that adding only one to two teaspoons of cinnamon a day reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes. It helps the body to regulate blood sugar.

4.	Turmeric – Inhibit Tumors and Inflammation

Tumeric is used in India as a source to heal wounds. It is commonly used as a paste, tea to alleviate respiratory problems as well as colds. Modern science confirms that turmeric, with its compound curcumin is a proven antioxidant which has several anti-inflammatory abilities. Curcumin is used to relieve pain of injuries, arthritis as well as in dental procedures.

Turmeric, the goldenrod-colored spice, is used in India to help wounds heal (it’s applied as a paste); it’s also made into a tea to relieve colds and respiratory problems. Modern medicine confirms some solid-gold health benefits as well; most are associated with curcumin, a compound in turmeric that has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Professor Bharat also mentioned that it contains anti-carcinogens properties.

A conservative view on investment decision is that people should investment at an early age and recommendation should be sought from the young. However, now the opinion is changing rapidly and middle aged people are considered the best source of consultant for lucrative investment opportunities.

It was concluded in a researched conducted recently. The study entitled: “What is the Age of Reason” found that people in their 40s and 50s make sensible investment decisions as compare to both senior or junior to them in age and experience. In fact, the study came up with the best age for taking investment decisions and revealed the age to be around 53.

The study under discussion was performed and published by famous Brookings Institute. The study emphasized on evaluating the correlation between the investor age and his or her capability to make different financial decisions. The type of financial decisions included credit-card balance, Residential loans, vehicle loans, mortgages, to name a few. The study concluded with an acceptable confidence level that statistically 53.3 is the average age when the decision made were more sensible and fruitful for the investor. Equally, the chances of taking wrong decision was found out to be the lowest in compared to other age groups.

One of the researchers David Laibson said that the study analyzed a lot of data and reached the conclusion that mental capacity is at its peak in the age of 43 to 63. David Laibson 45, is a professor at Harvard University and aged the highest among the four authors of the research conducted.

The study came up with scientific evidence to claim that the mental factory works at its peak during the middle ages. This didn’t only apply to financial decisions; it applied to analyzing, processing and retaining information in general. In other words, our social and technical skills do significantly climb up to higher performance in our middle ages.

Fluid intelligence is the kind of intelligence that deals with the ability of mind to adopt, learn new knowledge and analyze it for possible usage. This kind of intelligence reaches it optimum points in our early 20s. This explains why young people are good at learning new things. On the other hand, Crystallized intelligence is obtained through aging and/or with “had been there done that” kind of life experiences, which obviously builds stronger with increasing age.

In the last few years dot-com boom had taken over the market, and everyone seemed to be going after investing in it like crazy. People in 20s were the biggest advocates of it and Warren Buffet (then approaching 70s) was out casted for his resistance to the whole technology thing. However, time has proven Buffet to be right on the spot while the young managers and traders are standing in the middle of nowhere with their decisions. It is not absolutely wrong to ask the financial advisor about his or her age, as now you have a scientific study supporting your question.

Mr. Harold Evensky who associated with Coral Gables (based in Florida) as Financial advisor says that increasing age make an individual smarter as far as decision making skills for financial decisions are concerned. Mr. Evensky who is about to turn 70 has significant experience in the different fields of finance. He further expressed that he feels that he is in a better position to make the right financial decision now, as compared to 2 decades ago. Apart from the all important factor of experiencing the financial world and life in general, he believes the contributors in better financial judgments are:
1.	The reading habit of financial magazines and journals
2.	Interaction with the people in the field
3.	Teaching experience with graduate students.

It should also be noted that apart from his responsibilities as Financial Advisor with Coral Globes, Mr. Evensky is also transmitting his knowledge by working as Adjunct Professor in a Lubbock, Texas Institute named Texas Tech University).

Dr. Laura Carstensen also has the same thoughts about the age of the financial advisors. Directress of Longevity at Stanford Center, Stanford University expressed that she is not comfortable with having a wealth advisor of young age. In the field of financial expertise age isn’t an optional requirement. An aged person having experience of good, bad and ugly financial transactions and deals is the right candidate for the financial advisor post in her opinion.

Mr. Harold Evensky is not an exceptional, case as there are many other elder people in their 60s and/or approaching 70s or even in the 70s doing so well in the financial deals. This is all due to their tremendous experience, and knowledge in the domain.

Jeremy Grantham believes that financial market is not the right place for a young person. Mr. Jeremy Granthan is the chairman of GMO, LLC a financial investment management company based in Boston, Texas. Elders are more stable and firm in their decisions/ or rather not influences psychologically by changes in the market – they are rather the master of the market.

Mr. Jeremy Grantham recalled the mid 1970s bear market crisis. In 1973-1974, the bear market faced losses, and as a result he had to reduce the values of the associated company by half. This was a tough pill to swallow, but it helped Mr. Jeremy Grantham to come out unscratched from the recession hit years.

Harvard professor, Mr. Laibson believes that with increasing age the human’s ability to see the things from various angles is increases drastically. People develop a set of benchmarks from their past experience about what is the good or bad way of handling particular issues. Old player in the financial market are always expected to make best decisions due to their vast knowledge and experience.

Health is the most important possession all of us carry along. What makes health so important is the fact that your family’s future does deeply depend on your health status. If you are in poor health, you will hardly be able to support your family. It is worth giving a thought. On a flight, you are always instructed by the flight crew to secure your own face with a mask and then try to assist others, when faced with an emergency situation. You are told so because if you fall unconscious, you would be of no help to anybody else around.

The same principle applies to life. It is worthwhile to make sure that you are healthy so that you can be around for many years.

We do understand that tight routines, long hours at work and the many responsibilities of life render healthy living a huge challenge. That is why we have come up with 10 different ways to help you adopt a lifestyle which is healthy. If you really want to, simple practices change your life completely.

1.	Watch the weighing scale - Obesity doesn’t just pile on you in a matter of a day. It is a gradual but sure process which turns your shapely body into an unrecognizable lump of fat. Keep your weight in check.

2.	Choose water over unhealthy drinks – Experts recommend flushing down around eight glasses of water in a day. Water has countless benefits such as no sugars and calories, which is why you should choose it over juices and aerated drinks.

3.	Eat healthy most of the time - If you have followed a healthy diet for as long as six days, then you can indulge in your craving for a day, but within limits. Eating healthy implies consuming loads of veggies and fruits and consuming everything in proper portions. Eat smaller and frequent meals within a day. You can have three proper meals a day and a light snack such as an apple or yoghurt between two meals.

4.	Nourish your heart by working out - Addition of some cardio activities like walking, riding a bicycle, running a small jog, or going for a swim to your normal activities should do the trick.

5.	Build some muscle - This leads to an elevated metabolism, and it is easier to keep off the flab if you have more muscle mass. Strength training such as squatting, lunging, push-ups and pull ups, doing crunches amidst other exercises will strengthen your body.

6.	Go athletic - Participate in a bike race or a marathon. A self-set goal of going a certain distance, or better still, going all the way until the end motivates you immensely – to do even more exercise.

7.	Find a Friend to accompany you - Have one of your friends or family members to adopt the same health pattern as you. The company of a friend makes it easier and encourages and keeps on- going.

8.	Incorporate exercise in your routine. Fit it into the set of daily activities you do as you begin your day, such as bathing, dressing for work. Plan your commitment of exercise to three or four times a week and follow it religiously.

9.	Expect discomfort. No one said exercise would not cause you any pain. A new exercise routine gets along some sore muscles. It gets better as you trudge along.

10.	Bring down the stress levels. Try to count all the nice things you have in your life. Adopt a positive approach, get an extra hour of sleep or just spare some time for yourself, maybe once a week or even better, once a day, to unwind and lie back.

It is only very recently that Pakistani SENIOR citizens can be seen around. They had a very limited life span of not even 60 years till around 20 to 30 years ago.

Earlier, they were showered with affection, care and respect by their young ones. Their families ensured that all their needs were taken care of. Hence, they were not much out in the open. However, it is nowadays a different scenario.

South Asia will experience a dramatic increase in its elderly population by nearly nine times between 2010 and 2025 when life expectancy increases to 75 years for men and 82 years for women.

World Bank statistical findings indicate a consistent increase in the global senior citizens population from 1948 onwards, thanks to reduced mortality death and longer lifespan. The global population of people who are above 60 years of age was reported to be 251 million and 488 million in 1950 and 1990 respectively. This figure is expected to rise by another 146 percent by 2025, thereby making the total count of senior citizen; 1,250 million. The developing part of the globe, especially South Asia and Asia would feature majority of the present and future rise. In South Asia, there will be a prominent increase in the elders. From 2010 to 2025 the average life span for women will rise up to 82 years whereas for men it would be 75 years; representing a rise in the senior population by more than nine times.

Senior population in Pakistan accounts for approximately 7.2 million with a consistent rise reaching 10 percent of the total population. By 2020, it would account for another 5 percent translating to additional load on the younger population who would need to take care for them. Governmental policies are also altered to address this change; Additional nursing and medical attention are needed for their care.

In accordance with their cultural requirements, the west region of the world has since long been promptly taking measures to ensure care for the aged. This has pre-dominantly led to building shelters for the helpless elders. Both, the public and private sectors have such shelters in the West. Building such well equipped shelters for the elders, falling in line with the cultures and traditions of our society is the challenge faced by us.

The Senior Citizens Welfare Trust recently conducted a study which established that 98 percent of the elders would rather stay home with their loved ones than take shelter in such homes. The cold environments of externally managed shelters are not really comfortable substitutes for the elders to get emotionally as well as socially in the company of their families. Although we may not quite support the effort to establish such shelters, the undeniable requirement of a few seniors is still not met. The ones really needing such homes are the aged people who are left behind by their kids in pursuit of better career prospects.

Although there is no doubt that kids surely wire finances to care for their parents wants, the need for a proper accommodation with domestic help still prevails. The elders don’t feel at home in a condominium-styled building complex.

The society is bound to extend their help in sharing some of the duties or elderly care and not leave it all to the government. However, healthcare is a service that can only be executed by the government.

Survey reports indicate that children forcibly have to admit their parents suffering from long-term chronic sickness such as dementia, paralysis or Alzheimer’s disease to foster care, as these are tremendously exhausting, both financially and emotionally. Much as they would like it, children are unable to shoulder the rising economic dependency generated by these ailments, not to mention the increasing expense of living. This makes it mandatory for every government and private hospital to have a geriatric ward which is well equipped to treat such ailments among the elderly which can only be addressed under constant medical surveillance.

Not all the aged people need to be in medical care and can be easily taken care of by their family with the aid of domestic care and medicines at subsidized costs.

The Zakat fund resources should be extended to poor households to help in caring for the elderly. This complements our cultural pattern of keeping our elders within our families.

Our nation does not specify any particular age of retirement nor does it extend any benefits to its nationals which make it obligatory for people to keep working for as long as possible.

Professionals such as nurses, teachers, engineers and craftsmen are utterly lost after they retire. Our nation should find use for their abilities and expertise in building its future. This would also make them feel wanted.

The entire world encourages its aged clan to extend their services towards volunteering for the society and its noble causes. There is a lot of need for such activities in slum areas, childcare homes, hospitals, etc.

Many senior citizens also suffer from loneliness. They yearn to interact with people of similar age-groups and enjoy activities, which are both fun as well as useful. This need could be fulfilled by starting day-care centers which offer facilities such as a library, recreational and functional activities, etc. Also recommended are topics such as training on first-aid techniques, health education, medical and eye checking camps free of cost.

Responsibility of these challenges needs to be shouldered by the government and society together. Political support and the urgency to chalk future plans is the key to tackle these issues. Even if they seem trivial in the present day, it would be very unwise to let these problems of our senior citizens get out of hand. It’s about time we act on them without any further delay.

Organizing seminars, discussions and processions on the event of International Senior Citizens Day every year is not going to suffice. Some firm measures leading to everlasting benefits are the immediate need of the hour.

Over 160 human and animal subjects were studied, leading to undisputable and clear evidence that – given the same circumstances and living conditions – people who are happy live a longer and much healthier life as compared to their peers who are unhappy.

The journal Applied Psychology: Health and Well-Being contain this study which, so far, most comprehensively reviews evidence, which links happiness and health outcomes. Ed Diener, who is University of Illinois’s professor emeritus of psychology as well as a senior scientist for the Gallup Organization, of Princeton, N.J is the lead author of this study. Topics of his analysis included long-term studies of human subjects, experimental trials on humans and animals, and evaluation of the effects of stress caused by natural events on the health of people.

Diener informed that eight different types of studies were reviewed, which led to the general conclusion that a person’s subjective well-being – which implies he has a positive feel about his life without any stress or depression – plays an important part in a healthy set of people leading a longer and healthier life.

Eg: A study conducted on around 5000 university students for more than 40 years indicated that the most pessimistic students died at a younger age than their peers. Yet another much longer study conducted on 180 Catholic nuns from early adulthood to old age indicated that those who positively penned their autobiographies when in their early 20s lived much longer than those who were negative about their experiences when young.

Barring a few exceptions, most of the long-term studies that was reviewed by the researchers indicated that being anxious, depressed, unable to enjoy daily activities and being pessimistic all go hand-in-hand with a shorter life and higher rates of diseases.

Studies conducted on animals also establish a strongly link poor health and stress. Animals equally cared for but experiencing different stress levels (which could result from having a large number of nest mates in their cages, for instance) have been found to be more susceptible to heart diseases, weaker immune systems and exhibit a tendency to have a shorter life than those who lived in spacious cages.

Laboratory trials on humans have indicated that maintaining a positive mood result in reduced stress–related hormones, increased immune functions and speedy improvement of our heart after exertion. Few other studies indicate that hostile married couples with marital conflicts experienced slow healing of the wounds and even poorer immune response.

Diener said that the consistency of the data both shocked and surprised him, with all studies concluding that our mood states influence our health as well as longevity.

Happiness, by itself, might not help in preventing or curing a disease, however, the fact that positive emotions and enjoyment of life play a significant part in having a healthier and longer lifespan is stronger than the link between being obese and having a shorter lifespan, Diener said.

He also said that while happiness is no magic bullet, there is clear and compelling evidence that it surely brings lesser diseases and increased longevity with it. He said that there were a few studies which resulted in opposite effects but majority of them confirmed the association of happiness with health and longevity. It is about time that we added ‘be happy and avoid chronic anger and depression’ to the list of current recommendations for good health: try to prevent obesity, do eat right, and avoid smoke, and do carry out lots of exercise.

It has recently been found that Delhi’s air contains further noxious substances. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has established that the level of toxic Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter (RSPM) in Delhi’s air is twice the national limit. At the same time, it is six times higher than the boundary set by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Therefore, cities transgress both local and global standards.

RSPMs are far more deleterious to health since they are less detectable than Suspended Particulate Matter (SPM), which refers to all hazardous substances. RSPMs are less than 100 micrometers in diameter.

Eventually, due to their diminutive size, RSPMs can infiltrate further into the lungs. Subsequently, citizens who breathe Delhi’s unsafe air are more prone to lung cancer, heart diseases, chronic bronchitis and asthma. A rather alarming fact is that individuals’ longevity is shortened in India’s polluted cityscapes.

The RSPM level in Delhi is as follows:

-120 micrograms per cubic metre instead of the 60 micrograms accepted by National Ambient Air Quality Standard.

-Moreover, these 120 micrograms are much higher than Tokyo: 60 micrograms and Kuala Lumpur: 90. The limit set by WHO is 20 micrograms per cubic metre.

-A prior study in 1997 indicated that a surge to 100 micrograms per cubic metre increased the daily death toll by 2.3 %.

MIT has worked in collaboration with the Union environment ministry and the Supreme Court. The research entitled Improving Human Health through a Market-Friendly Emissions Scheme was released during a conference on Global Environment and Disaster Management.

Both environmental experts from India and the US affirm that this substance is extremely detrimental to health. Adults and children contract deadly diseases including severe lung infection. Undoubtedly, infants are the most exposed ones. According to WHO, there is no real figure as a minimum level of toxic substances.

Anumita Roychowdhury, executive director, research and advocacy, Centre for Science and Environment, states that more stringent measures are required to minimise pollution level in cities. This is because RSPMs levels have been soaring since 2007. After a brief period of decline in 2002, it was found that these harmful substances rose again in the forthcoming years.

Although particulates emerge come from varied sources, the MIT study asserts the main culprits for RSPM are fumes from industries. It is agreed that controlling emissions from these larger sources are more practical than the countless vehicles in cities.

Consequently, the MIT study suggests market friendly particulate emissions plan to enhance air quality. For instance, part of this scheme would include the paying of fines by industrial plants and other vast polluters. Indubitably, polluters will review the level of toxic fumes contaminating the air.

Arguably, it seems that market forces have more influence than government agencies. Since industries are essentially profit oriented, any loss of money incurred by fines will act as a deterrent to pollution.

The Nefarious nature of RSPMs

•	They can be carcinogenic.
•	Premature death rate is thereby increased.
•	Cardiac and respiratory problems are worsened in the short term.
•	Onset of lung cancer is possible in the long term.
•	Fine particles and other air pollutants may cause asthma.

According to a new analysis of data released by the government, life expectancy across U.S counties has declined by 50 years or more behind that of the world’s healthiest nations. For example in Holmes county Missouri a woman can expect to live 73.5 years, which was the average life span of women in the world’s healthiest nations in 1957. It has now been surpassed enormously by countries such as Japan. Missouri has the lowest life expectancy for women in the United States.

In order to determine how American life spans rank internationally, U.S and U.K researchers compared life expectancy in the United States to a moving average of those in 10 nations that had the lowest death rates. A group included affluent countries such as Switzerland, Australia, Japan and Canada .In the period between 2000 and 2007 it was found that less than 20 percent of United States counties were above the life expectancy bar. Even, though that the U.S has one of the highest spending on health per Capita.

Christopher Murray director of the institute of health metrics and evaluation at the university of Washington and co-author of the study says that this news comes as an enormous surprise given the rising life expectancy in countries such as Australia and Canada according to

Previous studies have shown that there exist huge life expectancy disparities in the United States and across counties. It was expected that the trend would be progressive, but U.S is unable to keep up.

Broad disparities were noted from a particular U.S. County, to another one. According to the study which was published in the journal population health metrics. In 2007 life expectancy for men in Fairfax county VA was about 81 years compared to 66 years for men located in Holmes County.

Since 1997 women’s life expectancy has shown worrying trends where there has been a general decline in more than 850 counties while for men life expectancy decreased in only 84 counties including 59% in Kentucky, 66% in Tennessee and 82% in Oklahoma.

Five counties in Mississippi shared the same life expectancy for women as countries such as El Salvador, Honduras and Peru. The study’s findings concur with a report which was released in January by the national research council which compared the life spans in the United States against other per capita income nations.

Sam Preston PhD a professor of demography at the University of Philadelphia and Co-chair of the panel that produced the report said that the general conclusion is that American women are lagging behind their counterparts. This is something that is occurring in various counties but also at national level.

However Murray and his fellow Co-authors are of the view that the county to county disparities cannot be explained by demographic figures, such as income or ethnicity even though for instance white men and women have higher life expectancies than their African American counterparts in all counties.
To understand why some counties are keeping up and why other counties are lagging behind as 90 percent of the variation in the pace of progress is not related to either of the factors. So it is fundamental to look elsewhere.

According to author of the study, behavior such as smoking, conditions such as obesity and high blood pressure may contribute to poor health or early death. Thus programs that help people quit smoking, lose weight or generally improve women’s health may be useful in reversing the declining trend in life expectancy for women

According to David Kindig PhD and professor of population health sciences at the University of Wisconsin in Madison who however was not involved in the study says that investments in policies and programs at local as well as national level may help move these metrics. Similarly it may be important to invest in programs that boost increase the level of literacy and employment. It is certitude that social as well as economic factors are key drivers for health improvements. .

In the recent past, studies showed that alcohol drinkers lived longer than non-alcohol lovers. However, according to Alcoholics Anonymous, these so-called abstainers were actually former alcoholics that became afflicted with an alcohol-related disease, as a result of their heavy drinking.

But a new paper in the journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research states that even
those who was practically alcohol free their whole lives died sooner than alcoholics!

Of course, this finding does not give us the license to drink up a storm just to secure our long lifespan. After all, excessive drinking has more disadvantages than benefits. Car accidents, flared tempers, and sluggishness are only some of the many ill effects of alcohol, and we should avoid being in these situations at all costs.

A sample research done by the team of a psychologist Charles Holahan of the University of Texas at Austin studied individuals between ages 55 and 65 that had some kind of outpatient care in the previous three years. The 1,824 participants were followed for 20 years. In those 20 years, percentages of those that died were 69% of abstainers, 60% of heavy drinkers, and only 41% of moderate drinkers.

The middle ground is moderate drinking. Drinking moderately, which means one to three glasses of red wine per day, is actually a health benefit, as it prevents heart disease and improves blood circulation. Drinking socially is also a positive aspect of drinking, as it enables us to build on relationships and unwind after a stressful day.

So at the end of the day, a couple of glasses of alcohol with good company can have a positive effect on your physical as well as your social well-being.

Eight hours of sleep, isn’t a luxury it is what our body needs. There are many who consider that five to six hours of sleep per day is enough. Most commonly, for them, it is their defence-mechanisms that have to remind. Sleep Well To Avoid Dreadful Health Pathologies

A good sleep has many benefits to our body. It increases our agility, responsiveness and alertness. It does also hamper the rise of a variety of health concerns.

One of our major concerns today, is how to, get enough time to enjoy a comfortable sleep.

According to Dr. Monique Burtler, who is a physician at Detroit Medical Center says that exercise is one way to assure a good night sleep. She acknowledges that any type of physical exercise helps to facilitate sleeping, being it strength training, aerobics and/or anaerobic.

However, the workout should be carried out preferably just after working hours or early in the morning. If someone decides to do workouts in the evening at 9 p.m., he or she will probably find it quite hard to fall asleep an hour later. Exercise tends to increase our level of endorphins, and this prevents proper sleep.

On average, people need eight hours of sleep per day. However, it is only a general rule, and exceptions do apply.

Diet and Proper Sleep

Diets play a fundamental role in our overall health. Diets help to reduce our level of stress and other similar underlining pathologies. Eating lots of vegetables and fruits is one way to naturally reduce stress and free radicals.

Some natural mixtures can equally promote a peaceful sleep. If you chew a large turkey sandwich, followed with chamomile tea than you will probably fall into a deep rest.

Butler does also advise people not to drink any caffeine drinks after 2 p.m. It is likely going to have negative impacts on sleep hygiene.

A series of studies has proven that insufficient sleep is directly linked with depression and anxiety. People, who are too tired, do usually reduce quality time spent on personal hobbies, and other activities that bring joy. This attitude can slowly progress into a depressive mood which steadily worsens.

If you want to sleep well, here is our recommendation, have a long walk, eat some turkey, and you will enjoy your dreams.
