Typical antioxidants and dark chocolate are found in raw cacao. Consuming this source of fresh chocolate source of antioxidant contains:

1.	Oligomeric Procynanidins
2.	Resveratrol
3.	Polyphenols
4.	Catechin
5.	Epicatechin
6.	Vitamin C
7.	Omega 6 fatty acids – if heated it will turn into rancid and become a source of inflammation
8.	Phenethylamine – PEA a the neurotransimitter associated to love
9. Serotonin
10.	Tryptophan – A amino acid which people who consume cooked food usually lack.

Typical chocolate bars have some rather negative attirubtes such as causing diabetes, weight gain and cavities. These side-effects are commonly linked with the fillers used in the mixture of dark chocolate like sugar and diary. On the other hand, when chocolate is in its initial form (raw cocao beans, nibs and beans) the health benefits are weight loss ( coumarin and chromium initiate this effect), avoids cavities (Theobromine eliminates streptococci mutans one of the bacteria that produces tooth decay) as well as control blood sugar (done by chromium) which is is positive for diabetics. It should be noted that raw cacao has positive benefits to the the cardiovascular system as well.

One of the best sources of magnesium is cacao, and this is also known to be the mineral that is insufficient in modern diets. Magnesium has several benefits. It enhances peristalsis in the bowels, relaxes muscles and softens the cardiovascular system. In a series of studies, it has been proven that dark chocolate does dissolve plaques that are formed in the arteries. This process does literally help to avoid heart disease and does naturally regulate the blood pressure.

Dark chocolate does still have several health benefits but the intensity of antioxidants like chatechins, epichatehins, procyanidins and resveratrol are much higher in raw chocolate nibs.

Raw chocolate is the highest source of antioxidant amidst food available. In the list of other foods that are rich in antioxidants we have red wine, blueberries, and green tea. There are also spices and herbs such as cinnamon and chaga mushrooms that have a high level of antioxidant as well. Consuming varied type of antioxidants targets specific parts of the body.

Based on a phyto-chemical analysis of typical cacao beans; it is found that raw chocolate might be the most chemically complex food components on the planet. Unfortunately, in the cooking process antioxidants are degraded.

For Longevity in each diet the below component should be present:
1.	Anandamide – a neurotransmitter which activates feeling of ‘bliss’
2.	Serontonin – protects one against stress by inducing good feelings
3.	Dopamine – a neurotransmitter good for pleasure and motivation
4.	MAO Inhibitors – avoids side-effects of dopamine and serotonin
5.	Coumarin – regulates blood, acts as an appetite suppressant and contains anti-tumor properties.
6.	Asparaginase – An enzyme containing anti-leukemia attributes
7.	Ergosterol – a product of Vitamin D
8.	Sitosterol – Reduces LDL cholesterol

The compact intensity of nutrients in raw cacao supports proper functioning of the body. In addition, it is the best source of chromium and magnesium. Most human suffer from magnesium deficiency so raw cacao is an important ingredient to consume.

The list below shows other antioxidants in cacao:

1.	Vitamin A
2.	Vitamin B (1, 2, 3, 5 and 6)
3.	Vitamin C
4.	Magnesium
5.	Vitamin E
6.	Copper
7.	Manganese
8.	Calcium
9.	Zinc
10.	Iron
11.	Sulphur
12.	Phosphorus
13.	Chromium
14.	Omega 6 Fatty Acids
15.	Amino Acids
16.	Saturated Fats
17.	Carbohydrates
18.	Enzymes – such as lipase, catalyse and amylase
19.	Soluble fiber
20.	Phytonutrients

Most of us prefer to look young. It might soon be possible to look 30 years at the age of 60.

The elixir of youth is being developed in various labs. One of the potential secrets of the fountain of youth might be revealed from the roundworm.

An organism, as small as a comma, is being scrutinized from various angles by a bio-chemist Cynthia Kenyon and her team. They have found that a mixture of rare genes tend to delay the aging of this same organism.

The director of the Hillblom, Center for the Biology of Aging, Kenyon gave a fruitful presentation of her research on how to extend youth, at TED Global 2011 (Held in Edinburg -Scotland)

The roundworm is very popular in aging research as it gets old and wrinkled in only 10 days, while in two weeks they are already gone. However, Kenyon was able to increase the lifespan of the roundworm six-fold by altering the worm’s DNA daf-2 gene.

The mutated roundworm, (mutated of the daf-2 gene) experienced delayed aging. In the beginning, the worm aged 100 percent slower than a typical worm; in other words, it took the mutated worm 2 days to have the same aging effect that a normal worm would experience in one day.

Kenyon said to the ABC News that something that was considered impossible had been done. Worms that were supposed to be dead weeks ago are still alive. They are even moving as young worms.

In the laboratory, roundworms that were considered as being 90 human years appeared to be as vital as 30 years. According to Kenyon, this remarkable progress in engineering of mutation provides significant insight into anti-aging research.

video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player

Kenyon emphasized in her TED speech that, in the world around us; different species of animals have varied lifespan. For example, turtle specie known as Blanding turtles show the art of aging slowly. We can find turtles of the kind being 70 years and 20 years, looking the same. It is almost impossible to demarcate the 50 years of difference.

According to Kenyon’s research, the daf-2 gene might have similar effect on the longevity of humans. A research carried out showed that people living above 100 years where more likely to have a mutation of this same gene in comparison to those who die earlier. However, more research needs to be done to validate the information.

Kenyon even mentioned that in 15 years from now, a youth-boosting drug might already be released on the market.

A research reported on 1st November 2011, for the very first time that a red-wine compound exhibited hopeful health benefits when tested on humans. This relatively small study had eleven participants, who were greatly overweight but healthy. It was observed that consuming low dosage of Resveratrol, the red-wine compound, for 30 days led to several improvements on their metabolic systems.

Patrick Schrauwen from Maastricht University, who headed this research, which was published in the online version of the journal named Cell Metabolism. They result of the study was considered highly interesting. He said that the research team discovered several effects, and all indicated hopes of improved metabolism in humans.

Resveratrol has interested scientists since its effect on substances such as yeast, mice and fruit flies resulted in benefits similar to those of a diet; increase the life span of several different species. In order to live longer and better, some people self-impose strict restrictions on the intake of calories. However, few people can put up with such restrictions.

Mice were also reported to have experienced protective benefits from Resveratrol such as resistance against diabetes and obesity. It also increased their enduring capacity and made them less prone to being overweight, thereby inducing longevity.

Some scientists felt that the fact that French people lead a long life in spite of eating heavy fats, also known as the “French Paradox,” might be explained by the effects of Resveratrol found in red wine.

Resveratrol, which is a commonly available drug in pharmacies and groceries, is being consumed regularly by some people. However, its expected benefits to humans were never established formally. Scientists haven’t really comprehended if there is any risk associated in consuming high dosage of resveratrol. Researchers even doubted the validity of early research on Resveratrol.

The healthy but obese men were given a placebo or Resveratrol dose of 150 mg for a month by Schrauwen in the latest study. He then moved those on Resveratrol to placebo and vice-versa, for the next 30 days. At the time of every change, the effect on their metabolism was examined by a series of elaborate tests.

Effects similar to those observed in animals, such as, reducing the rate of metabolism, stopping the fat from accumulating in the liver, reduced levels of blood sugar, blood pressure, inflammation and triglycerides, and improving muscle efficiency were observed in humans treated with Resveratrol. There were no specific side effects reported.

National Institute of Aging scientist Rafael de Cabo, who has been experimenting with effect of Resveratrol in apes, finds this to convey immense promise and significant development.

It was observed by the experts that the amount of Resveratrol used in the ape trials was less than that what consumed by most people daily. To equal the effect, a minimum of two gallons of red wine was given to the apes.

Other experts who are also conducting studies on Resveratrol as well as another protein enhancing compounds known as Sirtuins, have appreciated the findings of this study.

David A. Sinclair from Harvard Medical School said that this study has emerged at a time when diabetes and obesity have reached an alarming level and are still growing. Sirtuins seem to be a promising intervention to people who are obese and practices no physical activities.

Leonard P. Guarante, a researcher studying the phenomenon of aging at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, stressed the importance of this research on Sirtuins, which strongly endeavors to establish the scope of Sirtuins as the latest way to combat human ailments.

However, Schrauwen and other scientists warned that, in order to confirm Resveratrol’s long-term health benefits to people who are not obese is real more research need to be conducted. The study needs to be followed with more subjects and wider sample studies.

Stephen Helfand from Brown University said that it may seem a bit early now; a day will soon come when the human race will be looking back at the stage when Resveratrol was just discovered. To see the astounding progress in medical science, especially on anti-aging medicine, that grape medicine has. People will consider it as a significant point in the history of anti-aging research.

Helfand said that this discovery of molecules, which are creating such powerful benefits towards disorders of aging and increasing longevity, are crucial for aging research. This may also be regarded as significant as the advent of antibiotics as means to cure infectious diseases. Helfand considered it to be extraordinary to be a part of the aging biology research.

Recent research on yeast, seem to be revealing intriguing information on how to look young for several to come.

A group of researchers from National Taiwan University & Johns Hopkins have managed to alter the lifespan of typical single-celled yeast organisms. This was achieved by comprehending how to restore and remove protein associated with the aging of yeast.

The biologist found that whenever the age-related enzyme variant was removed the lifespan of the organism was significantly reduced. However, restoring the same protein led to a radical extension to the lifespan.

Jef Boeke, Director of the Hit Center & Technology Center for Network & Pathways, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine said for yeast, the study unveiled that a particular molecular component associated to the aging pathway appeared similar to the pathway that regulates the lifespan and longevity of humans.

According to Boeke, this is the first research that found a particular bio-chemical pathway of youth and aging, which is totally unrelated to diets.

Boeke says that a particular chemical type called acetylation forming part of the acetyl group of molecules goes on and off. It is similar to another enzyme Sip2, which works in the same way as decoration. It goes on and off.

Besides, acetylation is a necessary protein to enable organisms as well as systems to better and faster adapt to environments.

The researchers found that acetylation of the enzyme Sip2 influenced longevity in a particular way. It dictated how frequently the yeast cell could divide thus influencing the replicative life span.

In general, the replicative lifespan of yeast is 25 years. However, when the yeast was genetically modified to be able to restore the chemical alteration the lifespan of the yeast increased to 38, which is a rise of approximately 50 percent.

The scientists did manipulate the lifespan of the yeast by mutating various chemical residues, to create a similar effect to the acetylated and de-acetylated type of the enzyme Sip2.

This study was published in the Cell, September, 16. According to Jin-Ying Lu, M.D., PH.D., from National Taiwain University, the next step is now to test whether the same is true for other mammalian cells.

A recent newsletter of the International Plant Nutrition Institute underlined how crops nutrition can raise their content in major categories of proteins, vitamins and minerals.

The use of management tools can help farmers in diminishing the environmental impact. These tools allow the optimum source, timing and placement of fertilizers – nitrogen and other proteins, vitamins and minerals – in order to improve the quality of the products.

The nutritional value of nitrogen fertilizers used on corn and wheat has scientifically been proven, but the process needs some work. Nitrogen is a major component of proteins; cereals such as corn and wheat register higher amounts of protein produced after being treated with fertilizers. IPNI stated that corn and wheat nutritional value should be limited to lowering lysine – an essential amino acid. Another advantage of using nitrogen fertilizers is the increased concentrations of carotenoids; hence, increased health-potential and market values of fruits and vegetables.

IPNI also states that colour, texture, sweetness, folic acid, beta-carotene and vitamin C contents of watermelons and cantaloupes muskmelons is enhanced after potassium and sulphur use. In the same time, soybeans isoflavone, as well as tomatoes and grapefruits lycopene content increases are evident.

According to IPNI, third world countries such as Nigeria and Bangladesh – with a high rate of malnutrition – need to improve crops quality by nutrient supplements. They also need to become aware of the positive impact that plant nutrition has on human health, as the only way to upgrade their agricultural systems.

Upgrading crops can help people in developing countries to live longer.

We all know that kids learn from their mistakes. However, new research is suggesting that this principle applies to seniors as well.

This research finding was developed at a research center based in Toronto, called Baycrest. Baycrest’s research is contradicting previous research that proposed that seniors had a barrier in their learning process when it came to mistakes. This research used two methods to study the relation of aging: trial-and-error learning and passive learning. This Toronto based research discovered that trial-and-error learning was more successful in adult learning and memory.

The lead researcher on this team, Andree-Ann Cyr, said that effort and active participation are key ingredients when it comes to memory. These two ingredients are more effective compared to passive learning.
Baycrests’ research involved individuals between the ages of 20 and 70. Research illustrated that the group of older people responded better to trial and error (2.5 times better) than did the group of younger participants.

Andree-Ann Cyr trusts that these results are due to the fact that elderly people have reduced memory abilities. Factors that made a substantial impact on memory were mistakes and errors.

This research is available online at the Psychology and Aging website.

It is a known fact that we should put our physical well being as a priority over our food cravings. But not many of us are able to commit to the routine of healthy eating, thus continuing life as ignorant eaters who consume anything that is most convenient to us. This situation is rather discouraging seeing that we are well-exposed to the benefits of a balanced diet on health and life expectancy. In controlled experiments involving the same population, individuals with healthier eating habits are able to increase their longevity and maintain incredible fitness. Now, should we continue to close our eyes to the results of medical studies and let the doctor fix our health issues? Should we pass our time waiting for another breakthrough in anti-aging technology?

Well, try asking David Murdock, the answer would be for you to put more effort in improving your current health status. Having lived the the American dream, Murdock is a multi-billionaire who wrestled through the aftermath of World War II and emerged later as a powerful and wealthy figure through his successful business. However, a few years ago, when cancer took his wife and mother away, he changed both his investment strategies and perception of life. With an ambitious plan to live until 125 years, Murdock’s focus shifted to the development of health care and biotechnology as well as the lengthening of individual lifespan, carrying with him a message that all meals can be improved. The Hub has previously featured him together with other believers who deem proper diet and regular exercise as “secrets” to a healthier and longer life. The way you live your life, especially your eating habits, has a huge impact on your average life expectancy and health-span. Some took things further – taking supplements said to be important in the pursuit of vitality and longevity. Ray Kurzweil, in particular, is consuming more than a hundred supplements every day. A handful of determined people dedicate most of their lives planning their diets and working out on a regular basis just so they can continue practicing these healthy habits for a few more decades.

Nevertheless, there are sensible arguments that cast doubts upon these statements. Despite being able to live with vigor health even at his late eighties, Murdock only began his health makeover during his sixties. He was already remarkably slim before the change. Considering his meals were not as effectively planned as his current diet, those less-healthy habits would have by then inflicted harm to his aging body. Unfortunately, Murdock’s wife Gabriele did not survive long enough for him to discover the dietetics for cancer patients. She passed away at the age of 43.

In the case of Sakhan Dosova, who was believed to have an approximate lifespan of 130 years, surprisingly preferred ground wheat and cottage cheese over fruits and greenery. Others that have also lived more than a hundred year hardly favored high fiber diets. Dosova’s longevity drew widespread attention to her high-carb diet which perhaps, when applied by Murdock or someone else, might not show such positive results. We often relate our wellness to our eating habits. How true is that? What about quality genetic traits and other health risk factors? For Murdock, his wealth does play a role in sustaining his health.

It would seem that Murdock and the rest who are willing to go overboard to correct their lives are practicing the correct theory, and hence getting them their wishes of extending their mortal years. Still, there are individuals who refuse to surrender their “unholy” habits and succumb to the benefits of healthier ones, even if it means a few extra years in their lives. With the help of biotechnology, SENS aims to invent regenerative medicine capable of repairing body defects. Unlike the lifestyle-based approach that will only let you live past a hundred, SENS hypothetically assume that the technology can enable you to continue fixing damaged tissues and organs indefinitely for more than a few centuries. Not quite the age Murdock is planning for.

This new scientific advancement might take more than an average lifespan to work on. And, there is yet an invention for immediate youth. If reducing carbs and increasing fiber helps, why not give it a try? You might be able to see SENS’ success after all.

In our young days, the benefit of eating fruits and vegetables is a tale told by many mothers. Candies are the worse things that children can consume. This has been known for years, but it is only recently that a study conducted at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, confirms the mother was always right.

Our mother has always tried to increase our longevity, at least, when speaking about parents who are encouraging their children to consume vegetables and fruits.

It is certain that, longevity is still something subject to variation based on different determinants, and vegetables are amidst one of the factors. Our lifespan is increased in several ways when vegetables are consumed; it forms part of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

A research of the study, Dr. Xianglan Zhang, said that consuming fruits and vegetables help us to live longer, as it improves our cardiovascular health.

There are some vegetables that are more powerful than others, for example, plants coming from the mustard family, like cauliflower and broccoli.. These vegetables are concentrated with glucosinolates, Fibre and vitamin C.

The study involved roughly 135,000 participants coming from the large city of Shanghai in China. The adults involved in the study reported their eating habits together with their health history. The participants were thereafter classified into 5 different categories..

After five years of constant follow-up, 4 % of the total participants had deceased. It was found that those who consumed more vegetables and fruits had a 15 percent lower risk of dying when comparing too people who ate less fruits and vegetables.

The key fact in the study was that, people who consumed mustard family vegetables had a significantly lower risk of dying.

A special pattern was also identified for people who tended to die from heart disease. It was also concluded that vegetables and fruit consumption did not have any association with the risk of cancer.

According to Dr. Lydia Bazzano from Tulana University of Health Sciences in New Orleans, this study contains promising results. Yet, the research does not provide conclusive results that confirm that vegetables and fruits prolong our lifespan.

Unfortunately, the study did not consider other factors such as weight, age, exercise, smoking and vitamins consumed. These are some of the other factors that determine human longevity.

The underling advice provided by the study is that people should increase their consumption of mustard family plants.

Nowadays, above 600,000 deaths in the U.S are caused by heart diseases. The consumption of two to four cups a day can drastically reduce the risk of such disease according to the CDC.

Some of the direct and known benefits of diets which are rich in vegetables and fruits are decrease risk of stroke, heart attack, cancer, as well as lower blood pressure, less risk of digestive and eye problems.

Baby boomers are reaching old age as one of them, Wexler search for various ways to extend his life.

A new documentary was recently released by Mark Wexler, who is aged 54. He named his movie ‘how to live forever’. In this movie, he has emphasized on how science and spiritual efforts can help to increase human longevity.

He has been doing intense research to understand the underling mechanism behind aging and the potential means to reduce the aging effect. The film involves interviews with famous biologists and gerontologists such as Kurzwil, Jack Lalnne and other people.

The film was launched recently in Los Angeles and New York. This film will be displayed in all the cities of US. Wexler who is not only the writer but also the director of the movie said that, in coming 20 to 30 years people will be able to live longer. Maybe this movie can create awareness for people about the possibility of living forever.

There are several trailers for the movie available online on Youtube. In one of the clips, you can find funny longevity champions such as Bustin Martin, who was a 101 years old British before his death. At his advance age, he did smoke and drinking and participated in marathons and still lived for long.

This is not just a movie but in fact, is another research work on science of immortality. In the movie, you can see Wexler talking to two famous scientists Aubrey Grey and Sherwin Nualand.

Wexler got the inspiration of making this movie from his personal challenges; He lost his mother and got his AARP card. He did then find out that he was running short of life. This was the reason behind making this documentary movie. He derived interesting facts after his research on how to live forever. The secret to longevity does not reside how well you live. He says that he still takes many supplements.

The movie is a strange blend of personal struggle and scientific research. You should be motivated to watch this movie if you want to live forever. If you want to watch the movie then keep on getting updates from the website of How to live forever. It’s up to us to choose whether we really want to live longer.

The documentary made by Wexler’s can guide us to the journey of longevity and health. So if you want to live longer and a healthier life then get ready to watch this movie.

Scientists have been doing research on nature for a long time; one such research is being done by scientists from Italy, Spain, U. S. and Australia. They found that extra virgin olive oil is good for health, as well as for other benefits such as reducing the pain and inflammation. The oil gives lots of energy and has a good flavor. You can say that olive oil is a food medicine leaving a good effect on your body.

Mythical, Sacred Oil

In ancient Greece the oil was considered as sacred, according to Greeks the branch of olive tree represented peace in the Hellenic society. The oil was for the first time discovered in 1901 at “Room of the Olive Press” which is found on the Island of Crete, knossos in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Olives from such areas were extracted into oil since 4,500 years ago. This olive oil was also exported to Greece and North Africa. Olive tree was planted in large quantities around the Mediterranean where it grew along with early civilizations. Early literature from Christianity and Judaism describe Olive oil as the holy oil.

These days olive oil is produced in Spain, Italy, Greece, Tunisia, Turkey, Morocco, and Syria in large amounts. The popularity of olive oil has led to a worldwide cultivation in countries like the U.S., Chile, and South Africa. Australia. These countries have now become the biggest exporters of this oil.

Olive tree can bear hot weather, and it doesn’t need that much water. This is the main reason of its origin in Mediterranean region. Cold weather, on the other hand, is not good for it.

Olive Oil is good for Health

Olive oil exists in various chemical combinations. Extra virgin olive oil is the type used for cooking and eating purpose. It can be used in meals to protect us from diseases as arthritis, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol and pain. A study from Spain found that olive oil can help to maintain healthy weight. Another research from the universities of Navarra and Las Palmas de Grin Canaria in Spain found that diets, including olive oil can protect from depression while equally eliminating fats associated with depression..

The Natural Painkiller Feature in Olive Oil

A new research has found that the antioxidant called oleocanthal is present in extra virgin olive oil. Scientists from Monell Chemical Senses Center, in Philadelphia, noticed that oleocanthal in olive oil had ability similar to that of ibuprofen; a medicine that reduces the cyclooxygenase enzyme that causes pain and inflammation.

These findings were also published in the science magazine Nature. Pain killers have several negative effects, but olive oil can be more effective for pain reducing purpose as it is a natural compound.

A second research by the Italian researchers describes that the qualities as pungent and bitter taste of virgin olive oil was induced thanks to phenols in the oil. This is what produced this antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, chemo preventive and the anti-cancer benefits.

Research on Health Benefits of Olive Oil

An “International conference on the healthy effect of virgin olive oil” was held in Spain in 2005. There were several benefits of virgin olive oil regarding cardiovascular health, cancer and longevity discussed in the meeting. The researchers said that ‘new studies are constantly claiming that the Mediterranean diet, having virgin olive oil, is attuned with an increased longevity and healthiness’.

Taking olive oil is linked with:

•	Cholesterol reduction

•	Prevention from the Metabolic Syndrome a syndrome that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

•	Lower risk of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and Alzheimer’s disease.

The Antioxidant Strength of Pure Olive Oil

Phenolic is an antioxidant found in virgin as well as extra-virgin olive oil. This element gives olive oils a particular taste as well as energy.

Studies indicate these elements may be able to:

•	Decrease a kind of inflammation that causes coronary heart disease.
•	Decrease the growth of inflammatory chemicals called thromboxanes and leukotrienes.

•	Decrease the growth of the most damaging form of cholesterol, known as oxidized – LDL – cholesterol.

•	The researchers from the University of South Australia found that the elements from the olive were discovered to be antimicrobial towards a degree of bacteria.

Eat More Olive Oil

While buying oil you should consider that it is free from pesticides. As freshness is an important factor. For inflammation purpose only two teaspoons of olive oil are enough. It is also good for salad dressing and can be used on bread too, as it is healthier than butter. It is as good for baking.

A good recipe of olive oil

Ingredients for Pomegranate Lime Dressing; Pomegranate juice is a remarkable source of flavonoids, which help to prevent inflammation.
-	One teaspoon extra virgin olive oil + Juice of 1/2 lime
-	One tablespoon unsweetened pomegranate juice
In a jar, mix together the lime juice, pomegranate juice with some extra virgin olive oil and you have a healthy salad dressing.
