Super-Centenarians Struggling to Set A New Benchmark for Longevity

“Death is an imposition on the human race and can no longer be tolerated.” by Alan Harrington

There are many pre-defined conceptual belief about human longevity. However, it is essential to comprehend how to find a mere difference between the” possible”, “perhaps possible” and “impossible”. Being a super-centenarian can be considered as “perhaps possible” for everyone.

A super-centenarian is any centenarian above or 110 years of age. There are according, to updated list January 2010, 73 super-centenarians of which there is only 2 men. These people have already proven life expectancy can see new heights in the future. Speculating on the potential age that these people will reach will only be confirmed by time.

The fact that biological immortality is surfacing and people are living longer and longer proves that there is great reward in longevity research.

Facts about Us

The DNA of humans has not changed much in the past 200, 000 years according to DNA sequences of Homo sapiens. Our behavior state has changed tremendously from a hunter to contemporary civilized man in society. This is based on the Darwinian evolution, whereby our body has been undergoing unremitting challenges to almost the vertex of possible extinction.

Change in life expectancy is a recent phenomenon. In the latest 100 years, life expectancy has increased with 25 years from around 50 to above 75 years in some regions. The supporting factors for this radical improvement is antibiotics, health measures, obstetrical techniques, lifestyle and henceforth. The contributors have made our life expectancy much above our “evolutionary expectations”. The most appealing fact is that we are not only succeeding to live longer but healthier as well.

The plain fact that, we are living longer and healthier gives us a great advantage over our ancestors. However, practically as we live longer we are faced with health pathologies that our ancestors would never experience. This is why we have to dig into DNA research and reveal cures to rejuvenate frail body structures.

According to some researchers two decades might be all that is required to have synthetic chromosomes and stem-cell therapies that will improve our body. There are other technology developments that are bound to make a difference to our longevity prospect. At the pace at which science is evolving, medical improvement is endlessly advancing.

According to Coles, it has been shown that super-seniors die from uncommon illnesses. They do not usually depart from this life due stroke, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease or cancer. They usually decease from senile cardiac TTR Amyloidosis. Young people do not generally suffer from TTR. TTR protein causes blood vessels to clog. This induces more pressure on the heart to circulate blood and therefore the heart fails.

Super-centenarians are in the lead of aging. However, technology might simply not yet be at their side to encourage them to survive until an uncommon age such as 150 years.
