Whatever you consume affects not only your health but also your appearance. Below is a list of food hang-ups that can make you age from the inside out as well as tips to break those habits.
A green living online community named Care2 added a list of food habits that can age a person, to a healthy living magazine called the Experience Life, they are namely fast foods, carbohydrate overload, sweets, waiting until a person is famished to eat and eating while one is stressed.
According to the magazine Experience Life, it is nutrition and not age that actually determines the human body’s internal chemistry. This chemistry influences, in large part, the resiliency and quality of practically each cell, organ and system in the human body.
Absolutely everything from the condition of a person’s skin to the quality of his brain, bones and connective tissue is determined in great part by whatever a person consumes. As a consequence, a person’s eating habits prove to be a major determinant in the time period that it takes for him to actually start seeing and feeling the impact of the aging process.
Fast Foods
Trans fats are responsible for the internal inflammation that leads to the body’s incapacity to regenerate organs. As a consequence the person’s lifespan is shortened.
Tip: Avoid in taking products that contain hydrogenated or “partially hydrogenated” oils.
Sugar
The human body is incapable to break down big amounts of sugars and when it is involved in such a process it consequently makes the person looks older through the creation of wrinkles. Shawn Talbott, PhD who is a nutritional biochemist as well as an author explained that the sugar molecules gum up the collagen found in your skin which thereafter makes it become less elastic and therefore makes it wrinkle at a much faster rate. It also implies that if ever the skin is damaged, it will not heal as quickly.
Tip: Avoid eating refined sugar – make use of honey, agave and maple syrup.
Overload of Carbohydrate
Like sugar, an excess of carbohydrate in the human body can put much stress on the body and can also create the yo-yo effect, that is, a burst of sugar that is followed by insatiateness. This leads to the aging of the body by leading to type 2 diabetes, heart disease and metabolic syndrome.
Tip: Consume a diet that is rich in complex carbohydrate. Include vegetables, legumes and 100 percent whole grains.
Waiting till you are famished to eat
When the brain feels that the body is hungry it releases the hormone ghrelin in the body. It takes around half an hour for the body to normalize a person’s ghrelin levels. This will most likely prompt the person to overeat and can thus lead to obesity.
Tip: Keep healthy snacks at hand. Do not wait till you hunger pangs set off your ghrelin.
Eating while you are stressed
Sometimes the way and the place where a person is eating are more significant than what he is actually eating. When one is eating while stressing, a stress hormone named Cortisol, is released. This hormone prevents proper digestion, affects the stomach’s levels of acidity that in turn prevents the absorption of nutrients and will consequently make the person more apt to choose unhealthy foods and overeat as well.
Tip: Make an effort to relax when you are eating. Avoid multi-tasking when eating.
