... damage to the body. Amidst other potential solutions, resveratrol, which can be found in red wine, acts an ingredient to delay aging ...

Woody Allen, an American Director said, “I don’t want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve it by not dying.” In this world that we live in death is considered to be inevitable. It is a spin-off and mindset that must be forgotten. Yet, what would really happen if people had an unlimited time to pursue their work and also be immortals?

Human immortality is currently only a science fiction, and if you were born in the 17th century, than it would be just a fairy tale, as the average life expectancy at that time was only 35 years. Now, the average life-expectancy for a U.S citizen is 78.6 years. In two centuries, the life expectancy has increased more than 100 percent. If this happened concurrently, people would live indefinitely in the near future.

There are different groups of scientists and gerontologists who believe that there is a limit to the potential extension of human lifespan. They say that it is somewhere around 125 years. However, others see the future quite optimistic – a world where centenarians will be walking around with people who are 500 to 1,000 years old The main hinder for an indefinite human lifespan is aging diseases such as cancer, heart disease and dementia. So currently, scientists are focusing on comprehending how to stop the aging process, and how to repair the typical wear and tear occurring in our body.

Scientists have already discovered some proven methods to increase lifespan. For instance, calorie-restriction has successfully increased the lifespan of a few creatures. The calorie restricted diet, consist of lowering calorie consumption by 30 percent and thereafter increasing intake of nutrients. For humans, this diet and eating pattern seem to be very difficult to maintain. So scientists are now trying to properly comprehend the underlining reason why calorie restriction really helps to increase lifespan. Conceiving the pathways could give rise to a potential pill to mimic the effect of the calorie restricted diet.

The advent of new generation of anti-aging pills could help to reduce free radicals; molecules causing accumulative damage to the body. Amidst other potential solutions, resveratrol, which can be found in red wine, acts an ingredient to delay aging through a genetic pathway. Other scientists believe that telomerase, an enzyme which provides protective caps (telomere) to our DNA, holds the secret to human longevity.

There are also thousands of people injecting human growth hormones to try to counteract against the fatal aging process. A train people try their best to miss.

Yet, the challenge of realizing an anti-aging pill is enormous, an experiment that takes a few decades on mice and other animals take roughly 80 years on humans. So any drug to cure aging is decades away from now

Ray Kurzweil, doesn’t want to wait for a 100 years to live longer. According to his so called ‘Singularity’ theory humans and machine will merge together and become one by 2045. Blood and flesh aren’t the strongest material for longevity. If the singularity isn’t going to be realized than other futurists are suggesting the computer back0up system where our brain can be saved into a computer system.

There is a whole legacy of longevity theories and researches conducted, so that we can one day life forever. If we are unable to live until technology permits us to live forever, we can always freeze (cryonize) our body, for future use.

Raw chocolate is the ...

Typical antioxidants and dark chocolate are found in raw cacao. Consuming this source of fresh chocolate source of antioxidant contains:

1.	Oligomeric Procynanidins
2.	Resveratrol
3.	Polyphenols
4.	Catechin
5.	Epicatechin
6.	Vitamin C
7.	Omega 6 fatty acids – if heated it will turn into rancid and become a source of inflammation
8.	Phenethylamine – PEA a the neurotransimitter associated to love
9. Serotonin
10.	Tryptophan – A amino acid which people who consume cooked food usually lack.

Typical chocolate bars have some rather negative attirubtes such as causing diabetes, weight gain and cavities. These side-effects are commonly linked with the fillers used in the mixture of dark chocolate like sugar and diary. On the other hand, when chocolate is in its initial form (raw cocao beans, nibs and beans) the health benefits are weight loss ( coumarin and chromium initiate this effect), avoids cavities (Theobromine eliminates streptococci mutans one of the bacteria that produces tooth decay) as well as control blood sugar (done by chromium) which is is positive for diabetics. It should be noted that raw cacao has positive benefits to the the cardiovascular system as well.

One of the best sources of magnesium is cacao, and this is also known to be the mineral that is insufficient in modern diets. Magnesium has several benefits. It enhances peristalsis in the bowels, relaxes muscles and softens the cardiovascular system. In a series of studies, it has been proven that dark chocolate does dissolve plaques that are formed in the arteries. This process does literally help to avoid heart disease and does naturally regulate the blood pressure.

Dark chocolate does still have several health benefits but the intensity of antioxidants like chatechins, epichatehins, procyanidins and resveratrol are much higher in raw chocolate nibs.

Raw chocolate is the highest source of antioxidant amidst food available. In the list of other foods that are rich in antioxidants we have red wine, blueberries, and green tea. There are also spices and herbs such as cinnamon and chaga mushrooms that have a high level of antioxidant as well. Consuming varied type of antioxidants targets specific parts of the body.

Based on a phyto-chemical analysis of typical cacao beans; it is found that raw chocolate might be the most chemically complex food components on the planet. Unfortunately, in the cooking process antioxidants are degraded.

For Longevity in each diet the below component should be present:
1.	Anandamide – a neurotransmitter which activates feeling of ‘bliss’
2.	Serontonin – protects one against stress by inducing good feelings
3.	Dopamine – a neurotransmitter good for pleasure and motivation
4.	MAO Inhibitors – avoids side-effects of dopamine and serotonin
5.	Coumarin – regulates blood, acts as an appetite suppressant and contains anti-tumor properties.
6.	Asparaginase – An enzyme containing anti-leukemia attributes
7.	Ergosterol – a product of Vitamin D
8.	Sitosterol – Reduces LDL cholesterol

The compact intensity of nutrients in raw cacao supports proper functioning of the body. In addition, it is the best source of chromium and magnesium. Most human suffer from magnesium deficiency so raw cacao is an important ingredient to consume.

The list below shows other antioxidants in cacao:

1.	Vitamin A
2.	Vitamin B (1, 2, 3, 5 and 6)
3.	Vitamin C
4.	Magnesium
5.	Vitamin E
6.	Copper
7.	Manganese
8.	Calcium
9.	Zinc
10.	Iron
11.	Sulphur
12.	Phosphorus
13.	Chromium
14.	Omega 6 Fatty Acids
15.	Amino Acids
16.	Saturated Fats
17.	Carbohydrates
18.	Enzymes – such as lipase, catalyse and amylase
19.	Soluble fiber
20.	Phytonutrients
Resveratrol has interested scientists since its effect on substances such as ...

A research reported on 1st November 2011, for the very first time that a red-wine compound exhibited hopeful health benefits when tested on humans. This relatively small study had eleven participants, who were greatly overweight but healthy. It was observed that consuming low dosage of Resveratrol, the red-wine compound, for 30 days led to several improvements on their metabolic systems.

Patrick Schrauwen from Maastricht University, who headed this research, which was published in the online version of the journal named Cell Metabolism. They result of the study was considered highly interesting. He said that the research team discovered several effects, and all indicated hopes of improved metabolism in humans.

Resveratrol has interested scientists since its effect on substances such as yeast, mice and fruit flies resulted in benefits similar to those of a diet; increase the life span of several different species. In order to live longer and better, some people self-impose strict restrictions on the intake of calories. However, few people can put up with such restrictions.

Mice were also reported to have experienced protective benefits from Resveratrol such as resistance against diabetes and obesity. It also increased their enduring capacity and made them less prone to being overweight, thereby inducing longevity.

Some scientists felt that the fact that French people lead a long life in spite of eating heavy fats, also known as the “French Paradox,” might be explained by the effects of Resveratrol found in red wine.

Resveratrol, which is a commonly available drug in pharmacies and groceries, is being consumed regularly by some people. However, its expected benefits to humans were never established formally. Scientists haven’t really comprehended if there is any risk associated in consuming high dosage of resveratrol. Researchers even doubted the validity of early research on Resveratrol.

The healthy but obese men were given a placebo or Resveratrol dose of 150 mg for a month by Schrauwen in the latest study. He then moved those on Resveratrol to placebo and vice-versa, for the next 30 days. At the time of every change, the effect on their metabolism was examined by a series of elaborate tests.

Effects similar to those observed in animals, such as, reducing the rate of metabolism, stopping the fat from accumulating in the liver, reduced levels of blood sugar, blood pressure, inflammation and triglycerides, and improving muscle efficiency were observed in humans treated with Resveratrol. There were no specific side effects reported.

National Institute of Aging scientist Rafael de Cabo, who has been experimenting with effect of Resveratrol in apes, finds this to convey immense promise and significant development.

It was observed by the experts that the amount of Resveratrol used in the ape trials was less than that what consumed by most people daily. To equal the effect, a minimum of two gallons of red wine was given to the apes.

Other experts who are also conducting studies on Resveratrol as well as another protein enhancing compounds known as Sirtuins, have appreciated the findings of this study.

David A. Sinclair from Harvard Medical School said that this study has emerged at a time when diabetes and obesity have reached an alarming level and are still growing. Sirtuins seem to be a promising intervention to people who are obese and practices no physical activities.

Leonard P. Guarante, a researcher studying the phenomenon of aging at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, stressed the importance of this research on Sirtuins, which strongly endeavors to establish the scope of Sirtuins as the latest way to combat human ailments.

However, Schrauwen and other scientists warned that, in order to confirm Resveratrol’s long-term health benefits to people who are not obese is real more research need to be conducted. The study needs to be followed with more subjects and wider sample studies.

Stephen Helfand from Brown University said that it may seem a bit early now; a day will soon come when the human race will be looking back at the stage when Resveratrol was just discovered. To see the astounding progress in medical science, especially on anti-aging medicine, that grape medicine has. People will consider it as a significant point in the history of anti-aging research.

Helfand said that this discovery of molecules, which are creating such powerful benefits towards disorders of aging and increasing longevity, are crucial for aging research. This may also be regarded as significant as the advent of antibiotics as means to cure infectious diseases. Helfand considered it to be extraordinary to be a part of the aging biology research.

A few years ago, sirutins were found to be an ideal solution for expanding life span and fight age related disease. Scientists had declared this enzyme as a source to delay aging, and had recommended moderate consumption of red grape, red wine, blackberry, dates, etc. – every fruit that nature dressed up in a color near to black. The theory has recently received a serious blow: it was found to be untrue.

Recently, medical studies have discovered that resveratrol expand lifespan; statistics revealing that populations living in rural areas and who consume resveratrol a substance found in red grape skin and red wine. It can actually expand life span, and that is due to the consequence of sirtuin enzyme levels boosting. The same research discovered that Sirtuin effect is also amplified by calorie restriction – a diet known to extend lifespan of not only lab animals, but also of humans.

The discovery was a hit for the medical media, and Sirtris Pharmaceuticals founded in Cambridge, Massachusetts, expected a big time medical turnover, Sirtris Pharmaceuticals was producing Synthetic Sirtuin Activating Compounds (STACs); they are more powerful than resveratrol. The aim of the company was to treat age-related disorders such as type 2 diabetes and vascular diseases. Eventually, this same company was purchased by the pharmaceutical mammoth GlaxoSmithKline for a sum equivalent to $720 million, in 2008.

GSK competes with companies, such as Amgen and Pfizer. These companies made aggressive research in order to show that Sirtris Pharmaceuticals’ new drug, called Sirtis wasn’t as perfect as suggested. They claim the results were far from expected and that Sirtis induced side effects. GSK accused the two companies’ researchers of providing inaccurate information, which could act as a hinder for emerging biology and scientific development in the field of medicine.
.
On the same path of proof-experimenting, a group of the University College London has found that nematode worms and fruit flies, genetically modified to develop more of key sirtuins, display longevity but due to factors not really associated with genetics.

Company repeatedly, cross-bred common nematodes with a strain having been customized in such a manner to enhance the expression of sirtuin gene sir-2.1. The process – known as backcrossing – helps to eliminate influences from other genetic differences. Backcrossed nematodes continued to produce higher quantities of the SIR-2.1 enzyme, but they didn’t live longer than the average worms.

Other studies revealed that presumed longevity was linked to genetic differences. For example, previously noticed increase in fruit fly lifespan – linked to over-expressing dSir2 (the equivalent to sir-2.1 in flies), went off when the British scientist backcrossed the modified flies with common ones. Their research was replicated in a number of different labs, to prevent errors.

From the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Scott Pletcher says that this study does significantly prove that background control is very important in research of new medications.

GSK as a response said that sirtuins hasn’t been considered as a way to increase longevity. The role that sirtuins has in preventing diseases and improving human health is something different from low simple organisms.

Despite the controversy, several animal studies suggest that STACs can extend lifespan of obese mice. Scientists are divided in Pros and Cons, depending on their employer’s side. For now though, don’t rely on any part’s theory: none of them suggested that red fruits and red wine are poisoning

There is a growing belief that calorie restriction is the key to longevity. Dr. John B Carrigan is now in search for a potential drug that might enlighten the quest for longer human lifespan.

The debates on calorie restriction are swinging from one side to the other. Is it really the elixir of youth or just another anti-aging search? In the recent years, we are increasingly hearing more contradictory conclusion on obesity, eating disorder and diets, what is the key to longevity?

It is certain that the answer isn’t straightforward. In the world of science calorie restriction, is being proven to be one of the only confirmed ways to lengthen our longevity. But, the full story of science has not been fully clarified; there are empirical studies that refute the strong claimed benefits of calorie restriction (CR).

In 1935, a nutritionist at Cornell University, Dr. Clive McCay, concluded that depriving our body from the full energy need could actually increase the longevity of at least mice. At that time, it was found that if mice were fed with 30 percent less than the control groups, they tended to live 40 percent longer in compared to their counterparts. The study on mice CR identified that calorie restriction improved mice immunity to disease, and they became equally more physically active.

The experiment conducted by Dr. McCay has been replicated on a dozen of other species, like roundworms, fruit flies and other mice. The main conclusion of these studies, is that CR, alters biochemical pathways to either Off or ON modes, which enhances insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular function, resistance to cellular stress and decrease inflammation and muscle wasting that occurs with age. The result is that aging is delayed, equally are age-linked diseases such as cancer and diabetes. In general, CR has scientifically shown that CR can increase our longevity with an estimated 30 percent.

Another, famous writer and researcher on calorie restriction was ‘Dr. Roy Walford’ a pathologist from the University of California, Los Angeles. He spent his last three decades to practice a calorie restriction regime. However, he passed-away in 2004, suffering from ‘Lou Gehrig’s disease’, at the age of 79 years. So, upcoming studies which were released suggested that long-term calorie restriction does lead to faster progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou Gherig’s disease) even in mice models, which can ironically reduce lifespan.

Weight Loss – Advocates of Dr. Walford’s – legacy

Brian M Delaney who is the President of Calorie Restriction Society in the US says that there is thousands of people practicing calorie restriction. However, it should be noted that CR is different from common weight-loss diets. In contrast to weight loss diets, which are mainly meant for people who are overweight the CR diet is aimed to extend lifespan. The reduction in weight is simply a side-advantage of the CR diet.

CR is not about increasing exercise, or maintaining calorie intake, or losing weight. It is a full-fledge health programme, aimed to follow Food and Drug Administration’s recommended intake of 20 to 30 percent nutrition level.

The BMI (Body Mass Index) score that Dr. Walford aimed at was below 20. Another supporter of Calorie restriction regimes is Dr. Luigi Fontana, who is the Director of the Division of Nutrition & Aging at Istituto Superiore Di Sanita (Italian National Institute of health) and equally an Associate Professor of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He investigated members from the CR Society, and published a very insightful report in the Proceeding of the National Academy of Science, in 2004. It was concluded that CR leads to a comfortable metabolic rate which reduces the potential rate and risk of developing heart diseases to nearly zero.

Monkey Study – Species Almost Like Humans

The most relevant CR animal study conducted, in correlation to humans, is the 20-year CR studied done on our genetic neighbours (rhesus monkeys). The results were flagrant. In 2009, it was published that monkeys on a normal diet had a 50 percent survival rate in contrast to CR-treated monkeys with an 80 percent survival rate. The appearance of the monkeys was even more fascinating. The monkey on a normal diet looked significantly older than the one ones on CR diets.

Picture:

Is CR Really That Good?

CR is according to scientific evidence the secret to longevity. However, the studies have their own weaknesses. If we evaluate epidemiological data, we cannot say that the thinnest people have the longest lifespan. A few years ago, a long-term research conducted by Tohoku University’s Graduate School of Medicine on middle-aged & elderly people gave contradictory findings. People who were slightly overweight in their 40s lived on average 6 to 7 years more in comparison to their thinner counterparts. Thinner people lived on average 5 years less than obese people.

In order to make the study more comparative, thinner people who died earlier from sickness or bad lifestyles such as smoking were eliminated. However, the result was still the same. Thus, calorie restriction appears to have various effects not to re-mention Lou Gehrig’s disease.

CR Society Warnings

Announcement from the CR Society has highlighted that some advocate of CR tends to go beyond reasonable limits into unhealthy CR practices. Extreme CR practice has been associated with psychological disturbance such as food fantasies, anorexia and bingeing.

Insight on CR Theory

Richard A. Miller and his co-workers from the University of Michigan, in 2009, found that rampaycin (a bacterial natural products), blocks TOR kinase and this tend to increase the lifespan of mice. So scientists now believe that inhibiting TOR is the key to extending longevity – it doesn’t matter whether it is done through CR, Rapamycin Treatment or Genetic Mutation. The blocking of TOR reduces cells expansion; reducing ribosome production, amino acid transport and protein synthesis.

In addition, the organism is also strengthened and become resilient against various forms of stress.

Going into more depth, Fontana found that Vegetarians, who practiced CR diets experienced more consistent delay in aging. This suggests that it is not only calorie restriction that is required but maybe a protein restriction diet to increase longevity.

Drugs – Copy Study Effects

The pharmaceutical industry is investing huge in mimetics of these CR benefits. It might be possible to induce the CR benefits without even reducing consumption. Simply consuming CR supplements might be enough. There are already a few CR mimetics supplements on the market but non-of the drugs have demonstrated proven longevity benefits for humans.

The most marketed and popular CR mimetic is the resveratrol. Yet, there is a lack of empirical results purporting that it really increases the lifespan of mammals.

An early research showed that resveratrol increased the lifespan of mice who were on high-fat diets. Yet, the media highlighted that the study showed no relevant figures for mice being on a typical diet.

In general, resveratrol is considered as safe and healthy. It is also naturally present in blueberries, peanuts and grapes.

Most studies suggest that CR is safe and effective. However, the debate on whether eating less or taking pills will lead to a healthier and longer life will continue for years. Some people are even questioning whether it is worth living longer if you have to forego peppercream sauce and steaks.

The Fountain of Youth is a chimera but the possibility for longer life may be achieved.

An article in Thursday’s issue of Scientific Reports states that researchers have created a new drug that can improve the longevity of mice by 44 percent in contrast to those not given the drug. The latter is a synthetic composite known as SRT1720 that was devised by Sirtris, a pharmaceutical company located in Cambridge, Mass.

The New York Times published that studies are actually being conducted to verify variations of SRT1720 on human beings. The aim is to generate a pill which will make this drug’s benefits accessible to the general public.

An interview was carried out with David Sinclair and Dr. Christoph Westphal, two of three co-chairs of Sirtris’ Scientific Advisory Board by “Nightline” in 2007. While Sinclair was the company’s scientific genius, Westphal was its principal investor.

Both David Sinclair and Dr Christoph Westphal are eager to exploit the former’s discovery; that is resveratrol. This is an ingredient of red wine which stimulated the genes that directed aging. Consequently, the mice injected with this substance lived 30 percent longer than those which didn’t undergo this experiment. Obviously, SRT1720 has the same properties as resveratrol.

According to Sinclair, resveratrol is similar to Pac-Man governing the cells and subsequently, it becomes more vigorously effective. Eventually the cells’ increased efficiency enhances the metabolic rate, general health of the cell itself which is then more immune to afflictions of aging.

Westphal emphasizes that if their experiments are conclusive, these drugs will be immensely triumphant ones as they have the power to cure serious diseases. Indubitably, they may transform the lives of humankind.

The longevity of humans is restricted. Yet better lifestyle practices can effectively help to delay aging.

Currently, the segment of the population that is expanding the fastest is the aging one. It is estimated that by 2050, we will have a population of centenarians reaching 6 million, while 25 percent of the Western population will be aged above 60 years.

In the 20th century, lifespan experienced a rise by 40 years. Now researchers are delving to understand how longevity can be further extended. It is certain that longevity can be increased but most probably there will be some biological limit in expanding human lifespan. According to psychological studies, we can easily evaluate our age. Our biological age can be dictated by what researchers say ‘You’re only as old as you feel’.

Our biological structure is composed of small units known as cells. Nowadays, it is possible to extract body tissues and thereafter grow these cells in laboratories. The cells need only to be provided with specific nutrients; thereafter, the cell can expand and multiply (cell differentiation). Previously, it was believed that cells could continue this expansion process forever, if there were no signs of diseases.

Leonard Hayflick, who was a microbiologist defied and proved that the notion of immortality wasn’t possible. According to his scientific explanation, a cultured cell could divide for a definite number of times such as 40 to 60 and afterward, the cell deceased. In relation to this restriction in cell division, the biological limit of human lifespan can be extrapolated. This means that even if we stay health forever, and do never face any diseases we will eventually die one day as our cells will cease to divide.

Based on gerontologist’s projection, deaths are something that cannot be prevented at the age of 120. It should also be noted that the world’s oldest person, ‘Jeanne Calment’ lived to the age of 122 years, and died in France 1997.

Biological Limit: Telomeres

In the duplication process when one cell divides and forms two daughter cells, our genetic code (DNA) is copied into each of the daughter cells. Our DNA is a double-stranded molecule, sealed at both of its end by something known as telomeres. Telomeres are similar to the plastic cap found on shoe laces. If the plastic cap, is missing the laces will soon start to fray. However, during cell division, the telomeres slowly shorten. In this continuous process of cell division, the telomeres shorten to an extent that the cell can no longer divide. It is at that point that the so called ‘Hayflick Limit is reached’.

Nevertheless, our cells have the potentials to release an enzyme known as telomerase. This is a protein which has the ability to repair these shortened telomeres. Apparently, the enzyme is dormant in most cell types. Yet imagine the possibility of activating this enzyme. It could lead to a promising increase in cell life.

Researchers on mice have been giving outstanding results on how telomerase activation can prolong the lifespan of mice.

Resveratrol for Healthiness

In addition, another special compound, which is present in some plants, is known as resveratrol. Resveratrol has the ability to stabilize the metabolism of our cells. This substance is present in peanuts and red grapes. For instance, a typical glass of wine has roughly 1mg of resveratrol. Biologists and pharmaceutical companies are also struggling to release a resveratrol drug for human.

A Young Mind & a Long Life

There are easier solutions available than to wait for advanced technological and medical advancement in the field of gerontology. According to a Ellen Langer, a Harvard Psychologist in the 1979, who made an astounding experiment to show that lifestyle patterns does influence our biological age.

In the study, a group of men aged in their 70s as well as 80s were selected for a one ‘week of reminiscence’. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect on our body when our mind was turned back by 20 to 30 years.

The men were split into two groups. Each of the two groups spent a full week at a house situated near Boston. The control group spent one week reminiscing on the 1950s. However, the experiment group was told to act as if they were really living in the 1950s. They were given items and memories from the 50s, such as music, news and films. In addition, everything was discussed in the present tense. The aim of the practice was to bring their mind back to the years when the men were younger and vigorous.

In other words, the surrounding, prompted the men to act as if they were 20 years younger. The elders weren’t given support to carry heavy luggage neither were they given any special gadgets for aid. The experiment group had to make their own meals based on personal choices.

Physiological measurements were carried out by Langer, prior to the one-week experiment and afterward. Fascinatingly, both the group had improved significantly. The experimental group experienced the most radical enhancement. This was in terms of dexterity, cognitive abilities, memories, eyesight, hearing, freeness, speed of movement and regulated blood pressure.

Langer suggested that if the mind was associated to believe that you are younger, your body will be shaped in that form.

According to Langer’s study, the easiest way to stay healthy and young is to believe that you are young.

You stared in the mirror one day to the reflection of a wrinkled, haggard face and graying hair; and that was when reality hits you hard that your body is gradually surrendering to your increasing age. Not to mention, your cell system is becoming less responsive. A unique class of cells, known as adult stem cells, is essential in regenerating torn and aged tissues, but unfortunately, these cells are not exempt from the process of aging. Stem Cell 100TM may be able to relieve your frustration over your aging body. After several research studies on stem cells, telomeres and genes, Stem Cell 100TM is invented to regenerate adult stem cells and their microenvironments, which ultimately promotes anti-aging and rejuvenation – giving you a youthful, vibrant and healthy look.

Slowing the aging process with stabilized stem cells

A majority of people are forced to succumb to the tormenting experience of growing old and being unremittingly ill. However, scientific research shows that future regenerative medicine will be able to cure or significantly improve the health issues troubling most humans. Stem Cell 100TM moves the belief of the scientific community a step closer to reality by providing a few advantages of current stem cell treatments via a boost in the functions of adult stem cells.

As mentioned earlier, the cell therapeutic product encourages the regeneration of adult stem cells, which is effective in maintaining “normal” blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as in sustaining the health of your heart, immune system, colon, prostate, pancreas and breasts. A healthy inner body will eventually lead to a radiant skin complexion, improved focus and memory, and better stamina.

Stem Cell 100TM aims to reverse the negative effects of aging and help the body recover the regenerative ability similar to that of a child – fast, efficient mending and renewal of damaged tissues due to youthful regenerative stem cells – by “stabilizing stem cell function”. The product intends to regain a nourishing microenvironment for stem cells to improve their growth and ability to patch up damages, of which under normal circumstances, will deplete as we age.

Comparing Stem Cell 100TM with other commercial cell therapeutic products

Unlike other stem cell products in the market which accelerate or increase stem cell production, Stem Cell 100TM enhances instead, the efficiency and durability of stem cells, and at the same time, maintaining the microenvironment around them. It is deemed as a more successful stem cell treatment as the number of stem cells in a person’s body is rather inadequate, thus hastening their use in stem cell production may not be a decent approach.

The effects of Stem Cell 100TM on an animal model

Both normal and maximum life expectancy of the Drosophila (fruit fly) species was significantly prolonged during a massive experiment on Stem Cell 100TM. Six cages of fruit flies were involved in the research, of which Cages T1 to T3 were treated with Stem Cell 100TM and with Cages, C1 to C3 acting as untreated controls. Five hundred fruit flies (250 males and 250 females) were released into each enclosure at the beginning of the experiment. The end results proved that the product had “more than doubled” the average life expectancy of the Drosophila species with a 123 percent boost.

Indirectly, the study predicted the product’s ability to increase the median lifespan of mankind to 167 years. Fruit flies were used in this laboratory test due to the similarities they share with humans – a cardiovascular system with cardiac arrest being their leading cause of death, and a difficult-to-expand life expectancy. The findings surpass all other anti-aging therapies that have been previously assessed, which include genes alterations and diet control.

The fruit flies that were treated with the Stem Cell 100TM had a boast in their maximum life expectancy with 89 days, whereas the untreated controls only managed to live to a maximum of 48 days. The outcome showed an 85 percent raise in the maximum lift expectancy of fruit flies, which is the same as a person extending his life to 191 years. It is true that other possibilities may have caused the sole longest living Drosophila to survive longer, for example genetic mutation. However, the scenario was not abnormal, because several other fruit flies had managed to live nearly the same number of days. The eldest of the treated Drosophila, which constituted 5 percent of the entire group, had a 77 percent longer life than the eldest 5 percent of the untreated controls.

In addition, the research also demonstrated an enhancement in the capability of the Drosophila species to endure anxiety and disease at all life stages. The early days of the research had already depicted an obvious increase in the number of treated fruit flies that managed to live to adulthood as compared to the untreated controls.

Stem Cell 100¬TM and its four patent-pending herbal components

Stem Cell 100TM consists of elements from four important natural herbs that are commonly extracted for their active ingredients that regenerate adult stem cells and reduce inflammatory response – Astragalus membranaceus, Pterocarpus marsupium (Indian Kino tree), Pine Bark and Camellia sinesis. Polysaccharides, flavonoids, and astragalosides are extracted from Astragalus membranaceus, and are useful in maintaining stem cells, as well as the cardiovascular and immune systems. Marsupsin and pterostilbene, however, are two “stable resveratrol analogs” extracted from Pterocarpus marsupium (Indian Kino tree), which encourage stem cell growth, reduce inflammatory response and stabilize the metabolism level.

Pine Bark extracts contain Flavonoids and oligo-proanthocyanidins (OPCs), which can prevent reactive oxygen species imbalance, and lower DNA damage and inflammatory response. Camellia sinesis, which is the last of four herbs mentioned, contains a natural amino acid named L-Theanine that promotes stress and inflammation reduction, and at the same time, enhance the human learning abilities while preventing ischemic or toxic brain injury.

Potential users

Stem Cell 100TM can be consumed by the adult age group of 22 years or more. Younger users, particularly those in their 20s and 30s, will enjoy the improvement in stamina during intense exercise routines, whereas elder consumers will benefit from their noticeably healthier and energetic lives.

... an immunosuppressant given after an organ transplant; and resveratrol, a by-product of grape skins currently being studied on for the ...

This modern times, disease and aging are synonymous to birthday cakes and candles. As a matter of fact, the highest risk factor of death is the numbers of candles placed on the birthday cake. However, if you can imagine getting to the age of 85 or 90 without even entertaining worries about developing Alzheimer’s disease, cancer and diabetes, wouldn’t it be wonderful? At this point, it’s not yet a possibility, but it could happen.

Aging is the basic process of the changes in the body’s cells and tissue as humans age. Scientists who explore the biology of aging support the belief that the process can be modified. There is no way that it can be stopped but the speed of the process can be slowed down. On a positive note, peer-reviewed studies have gained scores attesting that in lab animals, slowing down the process of aging also provide a number of health advantages, significant postponing and even decreasing the occurrence of chronic illnesses.

If only the same remarkable results can be achieved in humans, the lives of the people in advanced years could be changed and be rewarded with what scientists of aging call an extended “health-span”. As stated by Dr. Richard Miller, University of Michigan gerontologist, the purpose is not to lengthen the life of an old and sick person but to delay the process of aging itself.

If that’s the case, what are we waiting for? Unfortunately, at this point, our scientific knowledge of aging and how it influences our health is still in the works. In the next two decades, the population of 65 and above in the U.S. will increase by 200 percent, and costs of age-related health benefits threaten to bleed the federal and state governments dry. Because of this, it’s high time that we alter our attitude when it comes to the study of aging. In the 20th century, our national milestone was having a man walk on the moon; in the 21st century, the milestone should be to discover the mystery behind the biology of aging for us to attain the fountain of health.

Medical interventions making significant impact on the aging process are drugs, diet and genetic alteration. For example, there are a particular type of genes which both animals and humans possess that are identified to control the rate of aging – this includes the CETP gene variant (otherwise called the “longevity gene”). This specific gene raises good cholesterol and may even shield against Alzheimer’s disease. Some other approaches are: caloric restriction, where lab animals are fed with lower-calorie but nutritious diet; the intake of rapamycin, an immunosuppressant given after an organ transplant; and resveratrol, a by-product of grape skins currently being studied on for the treatment of diabetes.

Another important aspect to be investigated are the reasons behind the molecular breakdown as a person age. This includes the body’s reaction against inflammation, which seems to be a major cause of incidences of ill-health in mature adults. A deeper insight of the processes involved in inflammation could overcome or thwart cancer, anemia, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease and also cognitive impairment at ages over 70 and up.

In spite of these breakthroughs, the researchers still encounter a major setback: they do know that these approaches work, the problem is that they don’t have much understanding about the why’s and the how’s. Penn State bio-behavioral health professor and American Federation for Aging Research president Roger McCarter claims that finding out how they work is a vital factor because each approach has a potential disadvantage. For instance, with caloric restriction a person can experience reduced healing of wounds, higher risks of getting infectious diseases and sensitivity to cold at most times. These issues should be dealt with before humans can try these techniques.

However, at this time, the biomedical research industry has not given enough attention to this ground-breaking field. Aging Americans have a tendency to develop a number of chronic illnesses, which account for nearly 95% of expenses spent by Medicare and Medicaid. However, the majority of research fundings are directed towards grants that solely study on individual diseases and develop treatments that focus only on one facet of an individual’s intricate system. Consequently, they may help extend life for possibly a few, but very costly, months.

The annual budget of The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is over $31 billion, with the large chunk of the funding set aside for research on specific diseases. Not much are being allotted for the fundamental study of aging, even if this field has potentials in offering a range of strategies in preventing and curing diseases.

Lack of financial backing promising researchers on aging tends to be transferred into different areas of specialization, causing a ‘brain drain’ to the field of gerontology. In addition, if the across-the-board budget cut pushes through, as proposed by the Republicans. NIH will bleed to dry. These add to the drawbacks experienced by the field of gerontology when, at this point in time, what we need most of all are scientific and medical breakthroughs.

Ashley Montagu, an English anthropologist, once stated “the idea is to die young, as late as possible.” The research on the biology of aging can guide us to this destination. Now what we need is the political vehicle to take us there.

Being aware of death and embracing it is getting normal for people nowadays. Everybody knows that we’re heading towards the terminal point in our lives. The only way of dealing with this is extending our life expectancy. Unfortunately, the wonder of aging is not yet fully understood by science. There are still loopholes that keep us away from our comfort zone. This includes genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors, that exhibits a broader range of mechanisms.

Presently, the average life expectancy of Americans’ ranges from 70s to 80s, and women live longer than men. This is quite a difference from colonial times where the average American was lucky to reach 45.

According to S. Jay Olhansky, who is a demographer and biologists at the University of Illinois at Chicago, “Longevity is really a modern phenomenon”. In recent history people died from infectious disease before the age of 10.

In addition he added, “We’ve done fabulous things to boost the survival rates of the young”. Standard of living has been improved through new medicines and enhanced sanitation. “It’s not so easy to add 70 years of life to somebody who’s already 70 years old.”

There have been a lot of efforts done today trying to extend human life span to a maximum of 120 years. This cannot be done overnight or sometime soon. But these things (medical research) do help and provide results. Examples are:

Calorie Restriction

Since 1930’s, scientists already knew that healthy but minimal diet can extend life span. They’ve studies and documented it from their experiments in yeasts, mice and even monkeys. But it has not been done yet in humans, so they’re still uncertain about it. The researchers at Tuffs University, Louisiana State and Washington University in St. Louis are conducting an experiment to gather scientific evidence.

The study volunteers will have to eat 25% less than their typical caloric diet over a period of two years. Scientists will strictly monitor them and find out whether the reduced diets will result in health benefits related to longer lives. Part of this is answering a tougher question. – Is it really possible to stick to such as calorie low diet?

Vitamins and Hormones

Vitamins C and E are antioxidants. They counteract free radicals which are highly reactive that can be formed when oxygen interacts with certain molecules. These are necessary to life but can also damage cells and speed up the aging process.

Hormones like DHEA, testosterone, estrogen and human growth hormone can have similar beneficial results. But this is not yet certain for organizations like the American Medical Association; they believe that hormone supplements might have negative long-term effect on health.

Resveratrol

Scientists, dietitians and other researchers are studying about the anti-aging effects of resveratrol. It is found in wine. It is thought to stimulate the SiRT1 gene (the one that kicks in when a person begins to lose weight). The same phenomenon is said to help slow the aging process. Further research on this is still on the process.

Hyperbaric Therapy

The concept of this is that an elevated level of oxygen contained in a chamber at an increased pressure energizes the body. This promotes healing and eliminates toxins. When this takes place, the factors leading to acceleration of aging can significantly be halted.

Other Options

There are still other ways to help us increase our life span that technology cannot offer.
