Modern Medicine is focusing on Bionics

A recent conference held by a Spanish Transplantologist, Paolo Macchiarini, addressed the subject “Bionics in medicine of the future”. It was organized in collaboration with “Science for Life Extension” that invited Paolo Macchiarini for his first conference in Russia.

The term bionics is used to envelope highly advanced medical interventions. It uses modern symbiosis of biological as well as synthetic materials. These materials are used to construct specific organs that are to function in the human body.

In 2008, a transplantation of a patient trachea was grown out of the individuals stem cells. This trachea was grown so well that only after four days, it was almost impossible to distinguish it from the adjacent parts of the respiratory tract. After a month the bionic trachea had created its own blood supply network.

A similar operation was conducted in 2009, again by Paolo Macchiarini and his international team and the result showed that organs regeneration could be effectively conducted within the human body.

In his opinion, modern medicine will very soon be able to develop regenerative medicine. In recent month, professor Macchiarini, has offered several presentation across nations. He is now working on a project at University of Florence, in department of thoracic and regenerative surgery and biotransplantation. He considers that bionics will play a prominent role in modern medicine.

The effort to spread know-how in bionics is crossing over the European continent. The professor is working in Barcelona, and does his scientific work at University College London. In collaboration with the foundation “Science for Life Extension”, and with Russian specialist, knowledge is being shared amidst other transplantologists and experts involved in cellular technology.

The visit to Russia is not only a step to share knowledge but a starting phase of long-term relationship. New technology is likely going to emerge in around five to ten years in line with bionic research that Paolo Macchiarini is discussing. The interdisciplinary program that is adopted will be an all-compassing strategy to in the Science Against Aging.
