Perhaps fifty years ago a man would have been considered “on the feminine side” if any interest what so ever was displayed in anti aging skin care for men. On the same token, very few men would take time to go to a gym and exercise in those days either.
Everything changes and everything has its time. How men treat their skin is changing as well. Skin care for men does not occur with quite the same amount of desperation and hysteria as it does with women. In fact, as men begin to age, they tend to become more striking as they add on the years. Adding a few lines and creases to a man’s face makes him appear more distinguished and masculine. This however should not be a reason to avoid taking care of your skin since men’s skin care is a health issue as well as an appearance issue.
Just because a guy wants to look after his skin in a healthy manner does not mean he is any less of a man. In days gone by, as a culture we were fine with men aging in peaceful silence, immune to any talk of healthy skin care and facial pampering. Today on the other hand, skin care manufacturers have introduced entire lines of men’s skincare products after discovering they were cutting their revenues I half by ignoring the other half of the population when it came to skin care.
When a man begins to show an interest in the health of his skin he should start with a facial cream. Ignore the body lotions at this time since your face is what gets the most eye time. Your face cannot be hidden so it is of particular significance that facial skin remains firm and glowing. Men tend to experience facial inflammation and excessive redness in their faces.
Men tend to also labor in the outdoors more so than women do and will get windburn and sunburn more frequently. In the winter months men’s skin also gets quite dried out from spending excessive amounts of time outside in cold temperatures. Men also seem to have a corner on the under eye issues. Males who work in highly stressful environments tend to have bags under their eyes, wrinkling and facial lineage. Add a family to the mix and you have men with sleep loss and dark circles beneath the eyes. Males anti aging skin products are available in plenty of variations and like the female skin care items; many include dangerous elements in them so one needs to be cautious.
One of these substances that can be harming is called mineral oil. It is hyped as a skin moisturizer but it will in fact clog your open pores and coat the skin. Your skin needs to be able to “breathe” and this substance will stifle that ability, your skin will also have a tougher time eradicating any contaminants. When reading the packaging, mineral oil is often referred to as liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, or petrolatum. In contrast to mineral oil, a wonderful compound for men’s skin is witch hazel.
Witch hazel is very soothing for the skin especially when it is sunburned as it reduces inflammation and redness. It should be considered an essential compound in the skin care kit of every man. It is also a great tool for after shaving skin rash and cuts. Today there are few stigmas surrounding men’s skin care products and regimens. You will most certainly not be considered a wimp if you indulge yourself with some care and solid treatment of your aging skin. In fact, these days you may be considered strange if you do nothing to protect and show some concern for your skin.
