Longevity Is There Really A Secret?

A survey conducted in 2007, on people of a higher age considered that the key for having a long life is to stay active and interested in what happens in surrounding.

It has been found that Americans above the age 50 try to stay engaged in advancement occurring. We can see old people watching videos, using apparatus such as iPods. According to a survey by Evercare, a division of UnitedHealth Group, the needs of elder people are to stay active.

According to Sherri Snelling, the director of care giving Service at EverCare says that the study found what older people are engaged in. A second sample of people aged 99 and above focused on attitudinal behavior of these people.

The constitution of 100 participants was as follows:
1. 80 % were White Americans
2. 70 % Stayed at Home
3. 95 % were above 100 years
4. 70 % were Women

According to Snelling, to stay active and aware about what happens in the world around us is successful in making aging appear easy. The poll suggested that watching TV, listening to music videos, playing games, reading newspapers are all important aspects of aging well.

The survey revealed that out of the 100 people being questioned:
- 31 % of these centenarians have watched Reality TV shows.
- 27 % of centenarians have watched MTV or music videos.
- 1 in 7 centenarians has played video games.
- 68 % of centenarians collate news from television despite that 40 % read newspapers.

The elders did also tend to have greater trust in ministers and religious representatives followed by doctors and nurses.

The most striking finding was that people at late-life valued memory more important than physical comfort. There were as much as 34 percent who valued enhanced memory whereas 27 percent who valued “less aches and pains” as most important. The most memorable day according to the study was with 28 percent response their wedding day.

The key to longevity and proper aging is still a secret. However, according to one of the respondents, the secret is simply to live a normal life. The centenarians have not done anything special to assure their longevity.
