Longevity becoming an Emerging Normalcy

Longevity becoming an Emerging Normalcy

Every year brings about gradual progress. It is hard to notice significant changes if you aren’t in the field of anti-aging, however in breakthroughs for 2009 we can find Rapamycin and Spermidin as well as astronomical progress in stem cell research and human gene therapies.

It is difficult to put a number to the extension of lifespan. It is a mere fact that once science will be able to add one year of lifespan to every consecutive year then human longevity can reach above a “thousand years”. Early researches are vital for future progress, and in this sense, advancement made during 2009 can account for as much as a 5-year prolongation.

As we behold the entrance to fresh decade and era of future research, expectations are high. It is complicated to forecast our position on anti-aging by 2020. Research in fields such as biotechnology, SENS, Nano-medicine, Cell therapy, Stem Cell, Gene therapy amidst many others will advance. There are already several of them which have entered clinical trials.

A list of some prominent clinical trials already initiated:

1. Stem Cells
Stem cell therapy is tested extensively on animals and is even being gradually introduced in surgery in expert hospitals. Also, stem cell is already being used to rejuvenate people’s face. Patients can alter the age of their skin by reversing it to how it was was some 10 to 15 years ago.

2. Gene Therapy
“Life span of mouse” has been increased by around 50 percent, through gene therapy. This type of science might soon become a human possibility.

3. Anti-aging Drugs
Various anti-aging drugs based on reverstrarol and rapamycin are widely available.

4. Advanced Therapies
People who are partly paralyzed can be given a second chance, to walk, run and see as near as possible to normal.

Other Facts
A. The SENS project, led by Aubrey is working effectively.
B. Previously life expectancy was increased by 3 months every year and now has risen to 4 months per year.
C. Increasing groups of scientists do now believe in biological immortality. Approximately 50 percent of biologists predict that it will soon be a reality.

History of Biology

Based on the exponential rise in knowledge in the recent 50 years anything is possible. In 1950, science didn’t even know how DNA was. It is predicted that within 5 years, each individual can check his or her DNA sequence for less than $5000. This would give them a possibility to robust their health and probably rejuvenate.

The question of progress is just a matter of manpower, funding and widespread support. The recent 50 years might have set the fundamental of science. Yet, much of this might be re-defined in the coming 50 years. It is strongly possible that the coming 50 years will be much more fruitful then the previous ones.

Aging is a longitudinal study as results appear only in the long-run. It would not be surprising if supplements, nutrition and minor stem cell therapy used to replace organs have already made living to 150 years plausible.
