There has since long been heightening discussion that longevity is merely a utopian truth. There are many ways to live longer. The most suggested strategies are to take vitamin supplements, diet restriction, anti-wrinkle oil and testosterone portions. In this myriad of possible solutions, something is certainly paving its way forward. It is a fact that people are living longer and becoming increasingly healthy at their old age. It was forecast by experts around the globe that life expectancy would start to stumble but it is erratically still at the upswing. It was also foreseen that an aging population would be a tremendous burden, however, elders are nowadays more healthy.
Life expectancy across the world has practically increased by 100 percent through the century. In America, every day lived represents an extension of five hours to longevity. In the United state in decade past to 2000, the number of centenarians have doubled.
How is it possible
There most prevailing reasons for surpassing life expectancy and achieving longevity is a step that medical progress should be awarded for. Nowadays, less people die from heart disease and stroke at an early age. People are able to alleviate infections and thereby live longer.
How Complex is the Science of Aging?
Scientists do not understand the underlining causes of aging. There are “bunch of theories” on aging. It has been concluded through experiment that calorie restriction enables mice to live much longer. The life of a fly can be doubled. Moreover, animals such as tortoises, birds, bats, rougheye rockfish live for many years in contrast to an opossum that is already senile two years before they are born. A “naked mole rate” does eventually exceed its technically feasible life span by five times according to researchers. Some single-celled species can only undergo cell division around 50 times and their limit is reached but animals go well beyond that limit.
Many researchers are making a great difference in the field of longevity. Some of these captivating researchers are “Aubrey de Grey”, Rochelle Buffenstein, Steven Austad, Leonard Hayflick, Caleb Finch and Leonard Guarante. These groups of research amidst many others are and have already contributed supremely to longevity research.
Are People Willing to Sacrifice
The Calorie Restriction Society in Tucson, Ariz has since long concluded that hungry mice live longer than those mice having regular food intake. Despite that, calorie-restriction is a well-established theory and yet there are not many people who adopt it. Eat less or so-called semi-starvation does not come as a golden egg, there are some possible shortcomings such as apathy, loss of sexual appetite. Some say that it is not necessary doing all this will make you live longer. It might only feel like you live longer.
Longevity Quotient (LQ)
LQ is a measure for longevity. It calculates how long someone is supposed to live based on his or her body size and weight. The LQ of mice is 0.7 whereas for human it is 3 to 5. Bats enjoy a long life with an LQ of 9 and above. Calorie restriction might certainly not have a great influence on LQ of mice but it can appear to maximize the lifespan of the mammal. However, bats and people do already live above their LQ and semi-starving might probably have little contribution to longer-life for the latter.
Research Environments
In experiments, a mouse is biologically comparable to a human. Our genes are alike. Although biology considers us as a big mouse, it does not necessarily mean that everything working for mice will work for us. In our elixir for longevity, using similar but not perfect prototypes to evaluate longevity can appear absurd.
Seeing the possibility
In 2010, the oldest person alive is 114. It is Kama Chinen from Japan. She still has another eight years to go until she matches Jeanne Calment, the French women who died at the age of 122 in 1997. This is the highest human life span evaluated. There are many who considered that at the turn of this century some people will already be around 150 to 200 years old. It is reckless to think that the longevity optimists are wrong. Medical advancement in treating neurological disease as well as cancer can probably contribute for many of us to reach the 100 mark.
The longevity record might simply just hit new tops as the years go by. The survival curve is positively shaped as people reached their full potential age. Reaching potential age requires however, socialization, medical intervention, controlled diets, hormone supplements and other longevity recommendations. Longevity keeps on increasing and it is nowadays a rational fact for researchers.
