Have Hands That Will Not Give Away Your Age

When an elderly person was asked when they first realized they were getting older, they stated it was when they noticed how old their hands looked. He had worked a farm for years outdoors and his hands had taken a beating from hard work and exposure. One can tell from looking at a person’s hands if they were pampered or if life was hard work for them. You can tell a lot about a person from their hands.

Conversely, when we have hands that are youthful looking they will defy our personal time clocks and help us to at least look younger. This is why taking care of our hands now will go a long way to disguising our true age and it is a secret many current seniors discovered a bit too late. One gentleman I spoke with worked with certain chemicals in the furniture business and learned quickly the benefits of lanolin for his skin irritation. One side benefit to using lanolin was how soft it made his hands despite the harsh chemicals he worked with daily and in his later years, he had hands that resisted their true experience.

First and most important is to protect your hands from the effects of the sun. They will retain their youthful look and you will avoid the unsightly “liver spots” or age spots. If you use a fifteen or thirty SPF sunscreen lotion each day as if it were hydrating lotion, you should notice quite a difference over time.

Use moisturizing lotion on your hands a minimum of three times daily. You do this because almost everything you do on a regular daily basis is hard on your hands. Even washing dishes will dry out your skin so hydrate it regularly to avoid aging.

Getting a regular manicure will aid in maintaining youthful – not to mention pretty hands. Keeping them clean and trimmed are the main things, buff them up and apply a clear coat of polish and that should do the trick.

Protect your hands whenever possible by wearing gloves in the garden to safeguard from injury and sunlight. Weeds can infect you with harmful toxins and scratches can lead to skin conditions like dermatitis.

Enjoy a personal hand massage. Rub your hands together as if they were being washed. Palm over the back of each hand revolving them in a circular motion to stimulate the circulation and warm them from friction. They will feel better and relieve stiffness and soreness.

Massage your fingers with lotion or oil to stimulate them and relieve stress from over using your hands for work. If your hands are arthritic or sore from repetitive motion this finger massage, will alleviate the stiffness and restore them to health.

Try exfoliating the skin on your hands by rubbing them carefully with salt or sugar granules when hands are damp. The course grains will remove the extraneous skin cells, improve circulation and soften up the tissue.

Eat a better balanced diet with vitamin supplements to make up for any you may lack like B complex series vitamins, which when deficient cause bumpy nails. Low calcium will make nails brittle and they will break and crack easier. Eating fresh fruits and veggies will make a large difference in the appearance of your hands, specifically the nails and palm skin. A better diet will also improve your health in general!

Following a few simple procedures to care for your hands will keep people guessing what your real age is as well as give your hands some much deserved attention. After all, your hands work very hard for you.
