Stress has since long been buzzing in our ears to create awareness of its potential pathologies. Recent research says that diminishing stress can prolong human lifespan. Extending lifespan by reducing stress can tingle in the mind of the stressed.
There a variety of approaches, that can be used to reduce stress. The most common approaches are yoga, meditation, relaxation and listening to relaxation music. These simple steps can, according to science, increase life expectancy.
The whole theory relies on a recent discovery by researchers from University of California at San Francisco who has identified an enzyme that substantial role in cancer, cell aging and normal cell functioning. The enzyme is known as telomerase that generates tiny DNA protecting ends that protect chromosomes, which are constituted by various body genes.
Eventually, telomeres have the function to protect genes and cells throughout their lifespan. However, through cell division telomeres are shortened and this reduces the lifespan of cells.
The research discovered that telomeres can actually be lengthened and this will increase the natural lifespan of cells. It can go beyond that and treat pathologies such as cardiovascular disease, blindness and neurodegenerative disorder.
Understanding How to Lengthen Telomeres
The solution to increase the length of telomeres is as easy as just reducing stress. However, to eliminate stress by considering various lifestyles and conditions in our era can appear as an oxymoron. Research is proving that life expectancy is determined by it, and should therefore be made a primordial goal.
A simple example can be drawn from a study by “UCSF” that scrutinized the telomere length of women being under intense pressure as they cared for disabled and chronic ill children. The finding showed that women having been most traumatized had substantially shorter telomeres than women exposed to an average level of stress.
It is expected that as stressors are eradicated for these women the length of telomeres will increase and this will prolong life.
To eliminate stress it requires much determination and will power. Some people might even have to undergo an alteration in their lifestyle. For instance, when you are having worries try some yoga or whenever you have some free time pop-up perform 10 minutes of meditation. The significance of changes like this can add a great deal to longevity as well as enhancing overall health.
The team that made the research on Telomere has been honored with the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology.
