Americans’ Overweight Problems May Not Shorten Life-expectancy.

Close to one-third of the American adults are victims of the nation’s obesity crisis. A document issued on the 25th of June 2008 revealed that approximately 25 million American citizens were diagnosed with diabetes. Yet improvements in Americans’ longevity over the past decades are rather satisfying, with the average lifespan reaching 78 years in 2007. Clearly, they do not see the need to sign up for weight-loss programs. The ongoing discussions are still at a very scientific stage with experts. So is obesity really a threat for longevity, is it necessary to reverse the obesity to avoid aging?

Researchers from both University of Washington and Imperial College London mentioned in a report issued on the 15th of June that the overall improvement in the lifespan of American people acts as a façade, concealing the huge differences in mortality rates between counties to counties. With an average lifespan of 65.9 years, male Mississippians in Holmes County live almost as long as Pakistani males. However, Virginian men in Fairfax live for about 15.2 years longer than them. In the period between 2000 and 2007, the longevity of females from 702 counties (30% of those participated in the research) had gone drastically into a down slope, whereas for males, similar regression was observed in a smaller number of 251 counties.

One of the National Research Council boards conducted various researches on longevity and discovered that the lifespan of female Americans had increased by a total of 3.3 years between 1980 and 2007. Nevertheless, the progress was just 60% of the growth rates of other developed countries. Evidently, America is falling behind other wealthy nations.

“Mid-century” nicotine addiction is often accused for decelerating the advancement, while the effect of obesity is still being discussed. Although Australia’s obesity epidemic is rising at the same rate as America, the average lifespan of Australians is escalating steadily. The National Research Council panel held the severe overweight issues in America responsible for around one-fifth to one-third of the causes that are widening the gap between the lifespan of America and other developed countries. Is this really valid?

Experts remain puzzled over the future, in evaluating the influence of obesity. The cholesterol and blood pressure readings of the overweight citizens from 1999 to 2000 were significantly lower than the readings acquired in the beginning of the 1960s. The pot-bellied community stands a chance to live longer as medical technology gradually improves. Currently, “bypass surgery” as well as statin drugs have already enhanced the health span of most plump Americans.

However, Eric Reither from Utah State University fears that the advancement in medicine may not be able to cope with the soaring obesity rates. Currently, the outlook isn’t that positive, because the trend is becoming more common in younger age groups. Mr. Reither, Jay Olshansky from Chicago’s University of Illinois and Yang Yang from North Carolina University declare the lifespan-shortening effect of obesity in a document soon to be available in Health Affairs’ August issue. They explain that previous research in life expectancy overlooked the health of young Americans. These day’s children are at risk of getting chronic illnesses (for example, renal failure) as soon as they become adults due to early-onset obesity.

Director of the Population Research Institute in Duke University, James Vaupel, doubts the claim that overweight may affect the advances of longevity. Instead, he is more concerned with the possibility of obesity heightening the disability levels. On the other hand, Mr. Olshansky is disappointed by the fact that most Americans still fail to foresee the harmful consequences of obesity.

As technology is growing day by day, we hear strange things about it. One such incident is about Professor Waffa Bilal, who tied a camera in the back of his skull. This video camera had a titanium base. He did it to check students but with scattered wires he looked extremely weird. The camera worked by sending images after every 60 seconds to the server. As the students thought that the teacher had an eye on his back so their privacy was threatened. So to hide it the professor wore a lens cap. Just a few months later, Bilal had an infection, and he changed the position of the camera to fix it on his neck.

This incident in fact reveals the human enhancement. Similarly there is another case of an Australian artist called Sterlac, who put an ear in his forearm. He made this his 3rd ear, in the lab.

He also wanted to put Bluetooth in his ear, so that people could hear his talk on internet; worldwide. But his wish could not be fulfilled due to infections.

Another artist, Steve Haworth has developed small magnets which he sells for a very small fee. The magnet is then implanted into your finger tips. These magnets will enable one to sense magnetic fields in the surrounding.

Similarly, Prof Kevin of cybernetics inserted a RIFD chip on his arm for opening and closing the door. This became a very controversial statement when he said that this chip should be used on dogs and cats for tracking purpose of crime, especially in murders. Such stories actually give interesting material to the media. It does also fascinate people, but it disturbs the human boundaries.

It is in human nature to keep on increasing its power through technology thus doing various experiments. Many such examples of human sense extension can be seen as imaging through the functional magnetic resonance and microscopes of atomic forces. Humans are always attracted to mysterious and weird things. As cosmetic surgery and Viagra is another such an example, perimeters raise many questions as can we be superpowers after such technology, or can we see our future by downloading our brain into a computer. This technology is good only for disabled as like heart, liver or hair implants.

There are many examples of athletes who miss some competition due to some kind of disability but what if the athlete has prosthetics enhancement. You can look at the example of the model Aimee Mullins, also an athlete with prosthetic legs. She has 12 sets for different lets for varied occasions. Such technology is equally very important for the soldiers who are permanently inured during wars.

There is a book on longevity never let me go, by Kazu Ishiguro. The story was recently issued as a movie. In this book society is shown in modern aspect where cloning is done to extend life by replacing organs. This movie is an example of human enhancement.

Many new technologies of reproduction and data regarding genes are emerging. A famous company called 23andMe, are doing reconfiguration of family and courtships concept. A prize is also provided by the foundation Methuselah, named as a new organ prize. They have secured $10 million for a new organ transplant until 2020. The basic purpose of this award is to develop new techniques for replacing organs as liver, heart, lung, pancreas and kidneys.

Longevity has become a great subject these days. New medical technology has evolved, and people are becoming more aware of natural diet. Some researchers such as Juan Enriquez of biotechnology are in favor of technologies of stem cells.

Researchers say that longevity through medicine can create a dozen of problems rangin from social, economic, demographic to emotional.

Some other research work says that the future human and his functions are dependent on ecosystem not us. A human body is a compound of medicine, prosthetics and promises, just like Alice in Wonderland. Actually human boundaries are body boundaries. The social and ethical boundaries of our species are tested by the researchers.

A question that emerges is whether we should go for enhancement or not. The easiest way might be to modify ourselves. Is longevity leaving a good effect on the planet? These are only a few reflections that people have to decide before opting for the best means to enhance human skills and extend human lifespan.

Many people read the longevity project developed by Freidman and Martin. People say that there are certain personality’s characteristics, which can lead long life. This is optimism, happiness, good marriage and handling stress in your life. Some people claim that good table manners is also among such characteristics; this includes being cheerful with social skills. Equally being extroversion does positively influence our health. Most of the time patience, persistence, and prudence are considered good for health and long life. They say that kids with these qualities are less carefree. And do not fall into bad health’ habits as smoking, addiction and drinking. This was shown in the Longevity project.

Studying the age and behavior of children as they grew older is very time consuming. The researchers did also conduct various group analyses. It was also noted that education is another factor for long life because education creates awareness in people about health issues. Longevity is also related to genes and kids of long lived parents. But this cannot be true in all the cases. Experts say that the genes do only play 30 percent role in determining longevity. The remaining 60 percent of determinants for longevity are associated with chance and lifestyles.

Women are considered to be more social so it is said that you can find longer lived women as compared to men. Friedman also stated that we should not retire early and should keep on working even in old age. Work keeps us busy both mentally and physically and we have less time to indulge in poor habits.

Yet, researchers are ongoing; people keep on giving their reviews on long life. One such review was described by an old man of 90 years. He says that if you keep things in moderation, your body will look after itself. He claims to be an introvert person who simply eats a moderate diet with good lifestyle practices. Sleeping early and waking up early is also equally important. Noting that this man is a retired heart surgeon, he is well aware of how to live a naturally healthy lifestyle.

The case demonstrates that education and awareness are major factors for longevity and health.

So the bottom line is that no matter what you do, and how you behave but a natural lifestyle is what will bring you a long life. So everyone should follow good tips of experts; always accept the changes in your life with open heart, and never resist the change. As change is a natural process.

A moderate lifestyle is one, which promotes longevity and reduces the risk for pathologies associated with stress such as heart disease. It is also essential to expect less from others, to avoid disappointment and other mental pressures.

A natural diet is one of the keys to longevity.

In Oregon, a new report has come out showing the link between high salt and sugar diets and the damage it can cause to the blood vessels. According to this study, drinks with high sugar content may increase blood pressure, most especially if one has too much salt in his diet.

According to researchers, higher blood pressure was reported in participants who had more fructose and glucose intake, which happen to be the main components of the most common beverage sweetener, high-fructose corn syrup.

Ian Brown, a research associate at Imperial College London, explained that they observed a similar relationship in both healthy women and men in their normal eating and drinking routine. He further stated that they were able to make full use of their collected amount of dietary data and 24-hour urine samples as these were the most crucial factors in the accurate measurement of dietary salt consumption.

People who has high sodium intake showed higher results

For each additional sugary drink taken, an increase in the participants’ systolic blood pressure was measured at 1.6 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) while an increase of 0.8 mm Hg was observed in their diastolic blood pressure.

Meanwhile, the study published in Hypertension: Journal of the American Heart Association reports that those who have consumed large amounts of sodium and sugar encountered an even more raised level of blood pressure.

According to Brown, an original approach can be seen in the transmission of sugar and the sodium intake in the study. However, a more straightforward link of blood pressure and sugars and sugar-sweetened drink are more apparent in individual with a higher salt diet.

Sweetened Diet associated to blood pressure

In one research conducted by the International Study of Macro/Micronutrients and Blood Pressure (INTERMAP), four days of food and drink consumption data were collected from 2,696 study subjects, with age ranging from 40-59 years old, in two areas of the U.K. and eight areas of the U.S.

This study required the subjects to participate in the process of going through an in-depth interview, filling up a questionnaire then providing 24hour urine samples two times, and monitoring of their blood pressure eight times.

From these, researchers concluded that the participants who had more than one consumption of sugar-sweetened beverage each day had a higher blood pressure level, which was caused by the sugars sucrose, fructose and glucose.

According to Brown, animal research reported the same results. However, as far as their knowledge is concerned, it has never occurred to humans. He stated that more studies are needed to further support the finding and to gain more understanding on the explanations behind this occurrence.

Pressure gets worse with salt

Joel Fuhrman, a physician and founder of the Center for Nutritional Medicine in Flemington, New Jersey, stated that when processed foods and sweets (calories with zero micronutrients) are eaten. – it causes an aggressive surge leading to inflammation that deteriorate our cells and produce blood vessel disorder. It also instigates aging of our cellular structure.

Fuhrman explained further that the sugar surging in the bloodstream after a sugary beverage intake triggers a spike in the insulin. When there is a higher level of insulin, hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis) occurs and leads to weight gain.

Salt worsens the situation when the intravascular space swells and keeps the volume of the blood vessel fluid elevated, causing the higher pressure on the blood vessel walls.

Because of this increased volume and pressure, the blood vessels react to it by thickening and narrowing their walls and the heart’s response is to enlarge and pump harder against the struggle. Fuhrman revealed that salt and saturated fats were once thought as the major causes for increased blood pressure levels. Now, we are made aware that junk food of any kind can, likewise, damage our blood vessels. From all this, it can be concluded that what type of food we eat and drink have a significant impact on our health and lifespan.

It isn’t exactly groundbreaking knowledge that leading an unhealthy way of life will make you appear older than you are. However, there have been a couple revealing bits of information from studies that should make us all take serious note.

Poor nutrition, no physical activity, alcohol consumption and lighting up your smoke won’t simply age you somewhat – it will make you look older by better than ten years! The majority of us require a major health scare before we take it upon ourselves to modify an unhealthy lifestyle, however if you can look like you are in your forties when you are actually in your sixties could be the motivation you require.

First of all, it is important to note that based on this particular study that followed five thousand U.K. mature subjects over twenty years – which almost thirty percent of them partaking in all four negative habits perished, while just eight percent passed away from those who refused to partake in any of them. It was also interesting to note that many in the unhealthy faction had a greater likelihood of perishing during the trial.

What were the most widespread causes of their mortality? Cancer and heart disease – both of which are so often linked to poor habits developed throughout life.

The Little Modifications Mean Huge Rewards

The second thing that was interesting – actually pretty astonishing – is those folks who were considered leading healthy lives through this investigation [also those who were the recipients of the dozen year reprieve from age while reducing their chance of mortality] – were actually only JUST getting by based on most good health paradigms.

This is what I am trying to define here – in order to be considered a healthy subject the contributors needed to:

• Partake in physical activity from two to four hours each week;
• Consume fruits and veggies a minimum of three times per day [study authors stated that having a lone carrot, an apple and a glass of juice daily would be alright but would not be optimum practice];
• Be none smokers or had given the habit up;
• Imbibe on less than two drinks daily for females and three a day for the males;

Turns out these are hardly intense health statements being made by the healthy group. In actuality, they are the minimum achievement that the majority of us should be capable of – specifically one and two. The folks reading this need to understand that when making only a tiny modification that is constructive where your diet or exercise regimen is concerned could in fact dramatically change your health and well being.

This should in fact be particularly inspiring to the people that are just beginning to make changes and are maybe feeling besieged by the challenge of pursuing healthy options in life. Each small step forward is going to benefit you – regardless of how seemingly insignificant. In actuality, you should begin the process in a deliberate manner.

The majority of us are unaware of the amount of assistance available online and elsewhere that will guide you and assist in modifying your nutritional level. Consider for a moment that you consuming a healthy diet each day – eating food that:

• Matches up well with your personal nutritional model;
• Are whole and unprocessed [for the most part at least];
• Foods that are lightly cooked or even raw;
• Are of the highest quality and purchased locally;
• Consuming grass fed meat and organic foods with no additives or genetically altered in any manner;

Doing this in combination with a physical regimen that works your system on a day to day basis or at a minimum of more than a couple hours weekly, while you decrease your levels of alcohol to a very casual quantity.

Think about the health advantages you will acquire! If you have a desire to remain youthful – this is what you have to do: North Americans payout staggering quantities of dollars on lotions and potions, technology, cosmetic surgery and various other tools to appear and feel more youthful. The simple fact is that beyond any of these “things” you buy and try, your best results will come from improving your way of life so you can establish tiers of better health now and for more years into the future.

To paraphrase the Roman ancient, Martial – “Life isn’t simply being alive but it is being well.” Truer words were never spoken and this still stands to this day. You cannot purchase great health because it is an elusive gift that must be nurtured or it is lost never to return.

The time is now to begin taking measures to ensure your healthy future – even if those measures are little ones – it will make you a healthier person. You might not know it but there are many systems that could power your mind and body while promoting health and well being – allowing you to finally regaining control over your fitness and health.

Millions of people make the choice regularly to improve their health and do so in great numbers – at any age. One only needs to look at the recently departed Jack LaLanne who was ninety six and had the physical health and prowess of someone half that age. What a remarkable tribute to nutrition and exercise indeed!

We all have options on a daily basis when it comes to our health and these choices we make influence our future health while determining every kind of disease man has known and maybe even some yet to impact us! Lifestyle habits we encourage can manipulate our genetic code and express these genes in a positive or negative way. They can also mean the difference between lo energy or high and whether we will be in a dark mood or cheery. We can either nurture our bodies in the right way or gradually wreak havoc upon it. This is a choice that it up to each and every one of us!

As you begin the New Year, 2011, it is crucial that you attempt to make this your year for change – the year you make healthy modifications to your lifestyle. You can start to live a healthier and well balanced life by following these steps to better health and wellness.

1. Successfully deal with your stress level

When I treat patients suffering from dangerous long term diseases a huge number of them have prior stressors that add to their predicament. In the more grave circumstances surrounding these diseases the suffering began in their early youth.

Self hypnosis, prayer, exercise and recreational activity should all be tried in an attempt to preserve one’s mental and emotional well being. I also absolutely think that utilizing measures like Meridian Tapping Technique [MTT] to care for submerged and occasionally vaulted emotional scenarios.

2. Get as Much Safe Sunlight as Possible

The Sunshine nutrient – or Vitamin D is unique from other vitamins because it impacts your whole body. D vitamin sensors have been located in nearly every variety of cells in humans from the brain to the skeletal bones – therefore, its potential to have significant influence on your health is quite huge.

It is good to know that D vitamin will enhance more than two to three thousand genes within your system and that is the equivalent of ten percent of all your genes.

Investigations have displayed how we can reduce our chances of developing cancer by – more than fifty percent – as we also reduce our risk for numerous other general illnesses just by increasing our level of D vitamin through exposure to sunlight.

3. Consuming A Diet That Maximizes Health And Suits Your Body Type

The plan I promote is simple – The best chance of living to a healthy and dramatically older age is to reduce your sugar intake while enjoying whole, natural foods. If this is too difficult the least you should be doing is cutting back as much as possible on grains and sugars in your meal schedule and concentrate more on a diet that suits your body’s exclusive biochemistry.

4. Consume much more food that is uncooked

A most significant part of a healthy meal plan and is quite often ignored is the subject of consuming food that is uncooked and in the raw form. Regrettably, as you could already know, more than ninety percent of the groceries we buy in North America are refined or processed. As we eat this caliber of food that is modified in some form through chemical additives etc. it is hardly a surprise that we as a species suffer from many dreadful long term and degenerative illnesses.

The perfect scenario is to consume as much food as possible while it is in its innate form, usually organic, biodynamic foodstuffs that have been developed at the local level and hence they are seasonal.

Though, even when we accept the best options for our food that we can, so many of the healthy nutrients are cooked straight out of them. I feel it is best to eat as many raw foods in our meal plan as we can. I myself strive to eat as much as eighty percent of my meals raw – and that means eggs and meat as well.

5. Boost Your Insulin And Leptin Levels

Consuming grains and sugar will elevate your quantity of insulin and this is a quick route to early aging. Leptin is one more big league hormone that is connected to age progression.

Same as your amount of insulin, when leptin levels are increased, your system will encounter a resistance to this hormone that will be devastating to your body. As mentioned earlier in the third and fourth points prior – your meal plan is the primary method of retaining equilibrium between this pair of hormones.

6. Getting Enough Physical Activity

What you get from good physical activity and exercise is remarkable and you better believe that attaining peak physical wellness is not possible without it. Some things that exercise will help you with are:

• Improved sleep
• Ability to manage your weight up, down or just consistently based on your requirement;
• Improved disease combating capability;
• Decreased chances of developing cancer, heart disease and diabetes;
• Aid in improved brain functionality – help improve your IQ

7. Eating “Healthy” Fats

Medical science cannot be any clearer on this subject – omega 3 fats are indispensable for prime health and wellness. Omega 3 is found innately in fish and various sea foods are laden with two fatty acids which are critical for healthy humans, DHA and EPA. These two fatty acids have a great deal to do with the prevention of heart disease, cancer and numerous other illnesses. Also important is how your brain is reliant on DHA – reduced DHA quantities are related to depression, memory loss, schizophrenia and mean an increased chance of succumbing to Alzheimer’s disease.

Regrettably, the fish for the most part that is on the market today – this includes that which is caught in the wild – are contaminated from PCB’s, mercury and many other toxic materials so with that in mind – My recommendation is to consume Krill oil supplements rather than attaining this from your food.

8. Restrict Your Contact With Toxic Materials

There are numerous contaminates around and their origins are plenty so discussing these individually would be impossible here, however, you can drastically lower your potential toxicity by paying closer attention to your consumer purchases and proximity to specific chemicals.

This means throwing away toxic household cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, soaps, air fresheners, bug repellant, pesticides for lawn care and this just touches the issue slightly. These can all be replenished with non toxic varieties that are far more health conscious.

9. Pure, Fresh Water Should Be your Principal Drink

On a day to day basis your body expels water via urination and sweating sop it requires restocking. It is possible to survive without food for a number of months, no water on the other hand means you will last only a few days or so, it goes without saying that water is a fundamental requirement for life.

It is not hard to determine how much water you need – simply by measuring your thirst and also the shade of your urine. Urine should have a light colored tint of yellow to it. Wen the shade is a dark yellow it means you are dehydrated and require more water in your system.

Additionally, when your health is good you should be able to determine your need for water based on your thirst alone. Substantiate your optimum water intake by checking on the shade of your urine as mentioned previously.

In order to have an ample supply of superior water, you might want to invest in a water filtration system at home. Here are many varieties of water purification systems on the market so be sure to review these and do your due diligence prior to making a purchase.

10. Be sure To Get Lots Of Sleep

Researchers have found that your circadian rhythms aid in managing your energy tiers within your cells. Additionally, the proteins that assist your circadian rhythm as well as your metabolism are fundamentally connected and reliant upon one another.

Hence, when our circadian rhythm is messed with it could profoundly affect our physical wellness. For instance, investigations have also connected interrupted sleep patterns to severe health complications such as depression, coronary heart disease and in some cases cancer.

Should you be one of the millions of sufferers of sleep trouble, be it either having a hard time getting to sleep or remaining asleep, there are thousands of helpful pages of sleep tips and tricks found on the Internet.

It is important to understand that there is time limit and when you can begin to improve your overall health and well being. Any day is the right day to begin making positive changes in your life for optimum health.

A recent medical investigation has looked at the affect food has upon normal physical aging. As a rule of thumb, when you advance in age you develop increased amounts of glucose, insulin and triglycerides.

Trial contributors received a reduced carb – high fat meal plan providing a sufficient quantity of protein. Investigators calculated numerous aspects that included weight, fasting serum glucose, insulin, ;eptin, lipids, and thyroid hormone.

This form of meal plan meant there were enhancements linked to age progression. Serum leptin was reduced by a median of eight percent, on average insulin dropped forty eight percent and fasting glucose by forty percent while triglycerides fell by almost eight percent and free T3 by nearly six percent.

What The Expert Has To Say

A number of investigations have exhibited how reducing calories can slow the aging process, decrease age linked illnesses and actually increase longevity. This outcome has been seen in numerous animal testing from works to monkeys and the evidence is pointing to a similar outcome for human longevity.

Though as science looks further into this, it clearly shows the fundamental issue that establishes calorie restriction as advantageous as it stands – is due to a reduction in the level of insulin in the system.

What is currently understood about calorie restriction is that it causes a decrease in metabolic function and oxidative stress, it modifies neuroendocrine and sympathetic nervous system operation in animal species, according to the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2003.

Insulin sensitivity is also improved – potentially forming the basis of the longevity discussion as borne out in this more recent investigation. Given that elevated insulin quantity quickens age progression, this seems to be a sensible conclusion.

Eating Less Sugar Will Mean A Longer Life

Evidence proves that consuming lesser amounts of food will be a healthier option for many over time, however, more significant is consuming foods and drinking liquids that will not greatly enhance insulin amounts. Consuming sugars and grains for instance can elevate insulin quantities and is an excellent way to speed age progression. Liquids have a principal part to play as well since high fructose corn syrup is in many beverages – in particular soda and is a huge factor for weight gain in North American society because it wreaks havoc on our insulin resistance.

Elevated sugar and grain meals are another principal cause of obesity – and leanness, even above food restriction is a key component to longevity – based upon one more trial run in 2003 and printed up in the Journal Science. The stylish examination courtesy of Harvard Medical proves that insulin is the primary functionality that this outcome is reconciled.

Regrettably, numerous physicians are still in the dark regarding the significant impact that insulin has on human health and well being. It is of the utmost importance for each of us to become knowledgeable about the part insulin plays in our health and what is necessary for us to do to maximize our health enabling us to live beyond the years of those who say and think the opposite.

Longevity Is Determined By How Much We Eat – Not What We Eat

According to the lead examiners in the above trial, they claim:

“It is significant to note that centenarians have reduced blood sugar, insulin, leptin, free T3 and serum triglycerides over those that do not achieve this age bracket of one hundred plus years of age. Hence, the rudimentary function that calorie restriction betters the longevity seems to change these metabolic limitations.

This study looked at the outcome of a meal plan particularly engineered to advance metabolic limits autonomous of caloric consumption. The meal plan is governed by the idea that when lowering glucose and protein as substrates for oxidative metabolism and augmenting fatty acid oxidation, a lot of the identical physiologic modifications witnessed in caloric limited animals can also be observed in people on the identical meal plan.”

An intriguing issue here is that they are not concentrating on caloric consumption in the least. Food quantities are not limited and the contributors were advised to permit hunger to determine needs. Rather the examiners targeted the kinds of foodstuffs that resulted in reduced blood sugar volumes, insulin, leptin and triglycerides – each a significant aspect of general health and fitness. So just what kinds of food are we discussing?

Want To See Your One Hundredth Birthday? Eat These Types Of Food

At this point it starts to get quite intriguing since opposite to what most have been taught about dieting, a principal issue here is cutting out carbohydrate starches. Additionally, the meal plan was comprised of boundless quantities of specific fats and oils like:

•Olive oil
•Raw nuts and seeds
•Olives
•Avocados

Contributors who refrained from physical activity restricted their protein consumption to about one gram per kilo of body weight – daily – and the ones that dis get physical activity were permitted 1.25 grams per kilogram of body weight each day. This calculated out to fifty to eighty grams of protein each day for the majority of contributors.

Protein foods were comprised of:

•Eggs
•Fish, sardines, and other seafood
•Tofu
•Cheeses like cottage cheese, ricotta and Swiss
•Veggie burgers
•Chicken and turkey
•Wild game

Carbohydrate intake consisted of only fibrous veggies without starch like the following:

•Onions
•Broccoli and cauliflower
•Cucumbers
•Peppers
•Sprouts
•Lettuce and other greens
•Mushrooms
•Asparagus
•Seaweed

Many of the contributors wound up consuming meals that were comprised of twenty percent carbohydrates of the starch less variety, twenty percent proteins, sixty percent fats and because of this contributors dropped a median weight of roughly seven pounds during a ninety day period.

It should be discussed that even though this rate of carbohydrates – fats – and protein resulted in quite a bit of lost weight for contributors, it might not actually be the best breakdown for all, specifically over a long time frame. Everyone is unique and based upon our age and nutritional variety – one may require a variance in the three kinds of foodstuffs offered here. Also, proteins on this list might cause some fols more problems than benefits.

The most significant part of this is the removal of starchy carbohydrates [the grains] that was important for improved health overall within the group.

Additionally to these meal plan suggestions, contributors were told to restrict the quantity of liquids they consumed to six – eight ounce glasses of water and/or herbal tea while entirely quitting sugar laden beverages such as soda pop and fruit juices.

Health supplements acting in support of fat metabolism and augmented insulin sensitivity were also suggested and these consisted of:

•CoQ10 100 mg
•Cod liver oil 1tbsp
•Vitamin C 1000 mg
•Vitamin E 800 mg
•Magnesium 300 mg
•L-carnitine 2000 mg
•Alpha-lipoic acid 400 mg
•Multivitamin that included all essential B vitamins and minerals

Lastly though no less important – lipid reducing or sulfonylurea drugs were all stopped prior to beginning the new meal plans – while the ones using blood pressure drugs used lowered dosages or stopped using them altogether when their blood pressure returned to normal levels.

The numerous areas that impacted longevity were also displaying dramatic improvements over and above the amazing weight reductions experienced by contributors and these included:

•Reduced free T3 (by about 10 percent)
•Reduced triglyceride levels (by 28 percent)
•Reduced leptin levels (by about 48 percent)
•Reduced insulin levels (by about 40 percent)
•Reduced systolic and diastolic blood pressure (by about 10 and 11 mmHg, respectively)
•Reduced fasting glucose levels (by about 7 percent)

The standard triglyceride/ HDL percentage [a powerful forecaster of heart disease] also dropped by roughly fifty percent!
The study leaders decided that “in the situation surrounding an outpatient medical clinic, a diet that consisted of elevated fats, reduced carbohydrates, sufficient protein and nutritional supplements meant an improvement in serum factors connected to the progression of aging. There is no drug or medication available that could present these kinds of results.

Just As Significant Is – Leptin – For Longevity And Wellness

A special point is the issue that this particular diet discussed here made it possible to drop leptin levels by a healthful forty eight percent in roughly ninety days! There is evidence that leptin might have added importance for optimizing one’s life span while improving health.

The same as insulin, the leptin hormone has been involved in a large number of long term illnesses that have a connection to the progression of age. Leptin develops within your fat cells and notifies your system regarding energy and when it is required [this means it controls your appetite] and what happens to that energy when it is accessible.

Leptin as well has an impact upon and might even be in charge of the hypothalamus inside the brain – and this influences your:

•Sympathetic nervous system
•Adrenal function
•Thyroid function
•Reproduction

Therefore, the same as insulin amounts, when leptin quantities are increased, your body will form a resistance to this hormone and the result is devastating to your body.

Concluding Views

This study just discussed is a remarkable demonstration of how dramatically we can better our health and increase our longevity by ridding ourselves of sugar and starch from carbohydrates while consuming a meal plan with increased amounts of “good fat”, fresh veggies and lean proteins – in approximately ninety days!

There are no drugs necessary so how great is that? We should seriously consider this.

Based upon Life span figures, humans are surviving for a longer period than any other moment in time. The fact is that in less than one hundred years we have added an additional thirty or so years to our combined life expectancy. We are literally manufacturing old age and it is claimed that this is the single most significant adaptive modification in the human species – ever.

On its own this type of data could make ones head swim. However, the pundits are now saying that we might be getting closer to the time when medical science can actually increase human life spans by twofold. This would be incredible if not for the fact that it is based firmly in falsehoods.

For a couple decades of new printed editions, the Guinness Book of World Records said that “there was not a single topic more covered in vanity, deceit, falsehood and deliberate fraud than the extremes of human longevity”

Data And Deceit

The chief instrument utilized to sway our thinking that we are surviving longer is statistical data. Certainly this information has its usefulness when it presents particular information; however, it may also be utilized to influence false hypotheses’. Due to the fact that many individuals appear fascinated where science data is concerned, the problem then becomes quite large.

We have been told time and again that statistics are factual. As true as this may be, those who lie still utilize statistics. As Mark Twain once said – “there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.” Information normally utilized to define progress made in the realm of life expectancy is deceptive – at best. It utilizes a procedure based on less infant mortality, to imply that humans are surviving for longer periods. This kind of silliness, as much as it makes for exciting policy and money making potential – it hardly ever exhibits the legitimacy.

We need to understand that statistics first and foremost are medians, not specific facts. The phrase “life expectancy” simply defines the projected median age at the time of mortality. This means that when it is recorded that life expectancy has increased, it only means that based upon averages, a person born today is going to survive for a longer period than the person born in prior years, using extenuating reasons.

Investigating The Fable Of Longevity

At the start of the twentieth century, numerous kids passed away at a very young age, and these days that development has for the most part reversed itself. As today’s kids grow into adults, Their added years of living means the median age rises, which embellishes the stats when evaluated to years gone by.

In the previous ninety years or so – from about 1920 to now – The American infant death rate has dropped from better than one hundred per one thousand to 10.9 per thousand. However, throughout this period, life expectancy has actually risen from fifty to approximately eighty years, so it’s been said. That is about thirty years we are being told to accept as fact.

So think about this – Based on statistics, an adult living in 1920 who reached sixty years old could believe he would live for approximately sixteen more years. Currently, a sixty year old mature adult could believe he can live for twenty more years – or roughly eighty years old.

So, rather than the thirty year enhancement, we are really staring at only a four year disparity in life expectancy. In the last ninety or so years the only striking modification has been our ability to make it to the age of sixty years of age.

Stated in a different way, theoretically, fifty out of one hundred infants born in 1920 perish at birth or as infants and the remainder survive to one hundred years old, the median life span is an age of fifty years old. If every baby out of the one hundred born in 2011 live through their infancy and reach eighty years old – the average life expectancy would then be eighty years old. An initial look makes it appear that those born in 2011 are surviving thirty years more than the ones born in 1920, however, that number is only the median; showing that more infants were perishing.

The people in our culture that arrive at the age of eighty or ninety years of age remain the single generation adding to the factual statistics. Any others wind up in the median group – that are simply guesses and not actual assurances that we are surviving for a longer period.

Manic Age Reversal

Humans are too easily swayed by declarations of longevity because the idea of dying is off putting to say the least. The idea of extended life or utilizing age reversal products has been ingrained into us due to fancy media presentations and professional marketing campaigns. Nothing however, can reverse, impede, stop the progress of or even slow the progression of age. We are only able to enhance the resistance of our physical being to the many damaging things surrounding us regularly. Stated a different way, we can augment our physical defenses within our body and elevate our chance of establishing a healthy lifestyle in order to arrive at a happy old age. This is referred to as reaching our most inherent potential.

The ones among us, who do not believe this is the case, insist on masking our outer age indicators by utilizing cosmetics, Botox, cosmetic surgery and verbal lies to others. They mess with the inevitable attempting to flee from the unavoidable physical decline via counterproductive and even ridiculous methods.

Anti aging supplements or drugs are one more naïve observance. The scientific and medical communities have a huge control over the thoughts of individuals that are prone to these notions. However, there are two camps pushing the silliness to consumers – the conventional and unconventional. They reach the deepest of our fears and desires for longevity and extended well being mainly utilizing immoral methods.

Can Current Medical Science Extend Life?

Things that can kill us these days have altered significantly from the early twentieth century. Rather than infectious illnesses, today we witness larger quantities of degenerative ailments. Unfortunately, no matter how much we wish the cheesy declarations and promises of medical breakthrough drugs being able to fend off aging were true, fact is human bodies just wear out. These methods can be utilized [with not much luck] to postpone, diminish, avoid, or eliminate chronic degenerative conditions – in the end they just prolong the inevitable sadness.

Today we are being hoodwinked and silenced into contentedly accepting a scheme that is far from backing up the unbelievable declarations being made. There is not a light in any tunnel where illness cures are concerned – no matter how many multi billions are poured into research.

As a global village we are staring down never before seen rates of deadly illnesses like heat disease, and cancers not to mention other ways of dying that simply can’t aid in extending life spans. Specifically at a time such as that, anything that breeds excitement about potential longevity is welcomed at our own risk.

Rather than pointlessly searching to extend our life or reverse age progression – by denying and masking our superficial appearance better that we place an emphasis upon a natural way of life and lessen our risk of disease. The kind of life we live is important rather than living in pain and discontent we can strive for a healthy life now. This is our best chance at sustaining peak physical and cerebral functionality.

These declarations that extended life spans are equal to disability are reckless and do not much more than make for a healthy profit in the coffers of the major drug corporations. Health professionals and news services need to keeps some kind of truth and preciseness in their reporting of this topic rather than deceiving the general population.

Aging with refinement has its own wonderful bounty such as acquired experience and wisdom, skills and polish. However, our largest success will be our capacity to live with the inevitability of our future and do so with serenity and acceptance rather than dissent. Being to obsessed about our physical being limits our ability to be thoughtful and opens us up to wrongheaded choices.

Our ability to provide what we know to society and family by being thoughtful of others instead of ourselves is one manner of assisting more. If we ever hop to do this to our best ability we need to maximize our biological capability and potential. This is how we can lead a fit and extended life and as our body begins to wear out, we can hope for the best and pray for a quick and painless decline.

Imagine a world where car turning blinkers are never turned off. Being afraid of a world of aged drivers, not to mention all the other resources an older population would take over. These anxieties are ridiculous but there is a camp out there that believes those who wish to live forever are being selfish and this ethical question is being punted about more often these days.

As scientific research into the medicine of human regeneration via stem cell therapies moves forward, more knowledge is acquired regarding longevity, life saving transplants – both organ and tissue – and with geneticists untangling secrets of senescence, science fiction is rapidly becoming reality.

Strangely, the people insisting that there are ethics concerning immortality have a preconceived answer in their heads even before debate erupts – it is NOT RIGHT! Much is being written in books, articles and editorials concerning individual moral torment from both sides of the issue about human beings sticking around much longer than God himself intended when he created our genetic codes.

What is it about the thought of potential immortality that strikes fear into so many? There are many reasons if a person spent a few minutes perusing the angst driven scrawling of the anti ager sect. More often than not the argument concerning medical research to develop a world of log living oldsters would cost us too much money – as if it came straight out of our own personal savings. It would be a horrific experiment, specifically on the oldsters themselves since a longer life would mean more age related ailments to contend with like osteoporosis, arthritis, Alzheimer’s and dementia, not to mention gum disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Who needs this kind of hassle?

Still one more argument is it isn’t right that we humans attempt to achieve immortality since it goes against the innate manner of things – it disrupts the tidy order of life. The maximum life we can expect and rarely achieve is about one hundred years old. Some manage longer due to pristine genetics and luck. One of us was even recorded to have survived to one hundred twenty two years old – a woman in France. When we speak of these extended ages we are way beyond what our Creator or nature ever intended for us.

Another concern about a world of immortals is that the younger generations will be denied their opportunity to shine – as if they could be stopped somehow. It might also get really boring and oppressive if these young and potential shining lights never had their opportunity to thrive in the world. The planet would be full of egotistical and ineffective individuals believing they are worthy of as much additional life as they desire – perpetually.

Do these topics of debate deserve our attention? Is it really that immoral to look to government and private industry to source out new ideas and concrete methods that would enable us all to live much lengthier lives?

So Can We At Least Live Longer – If Not Forever?

To begin with, we must remove the question of immortality from the equation. Nothing manmade yet exists – or is even close – that will aid humanity toward everlasting life. Some experts think that will change sooner than later – we will see. Forget about living forever at least in this lifetime. The real argument is whether we can actually extend life to the outer limits of existing life spans.

The debate that we should cease our effort to extend life because we will only grow older, more fragile and dependent is just ridiculous. No one is recommending that we break the bank to promote medical research in pursuit of life extension with the additional pain and suffering that goes along with advanced age. The plan surrounding drastic life extension is to be able to live a reasonably healthy life for a much longer time period. If life extension means staying alive longer while living in pain or worse still, the fog of Alzheimer’s disease – there really is no debate. However, this is not the issue or the argument.

As far as breaching some innate restriction if we last longer than we do now – whose restriction would that be? Our natural life spans have already been doubled in the past two millennia. Does this mean we are in the midst of an abnormal and corrupt period of our human existence?

If you look at the lives of many in the bible there is much evidence suggesting humans lived for hundreds of years. If you are not interested in biblical proof, take a look at evolution as a whole and you will notice there is no law regarding the length of time a particular species will survive. Some insects are here for a few days and you’ll find a species of sea urchin living for a thousand years – who decides? Nature has no cards in this game of how long we will live for – just that we will perpetuate the species. Innate life spans do not exist – only our capacity to do more with our medical health, industrial, technological and agricultural abilities.

There is a bit of fact in the theory of long living seniors making it tough on the younger generations to step up and show what they have to offer. No problem exists here wither if we can alter some existing social and cultural behaviors and rules that will make it easier for youth to shine and resources to be available for everyone. An obvious modification is to adjust the retirement age upwards but posting a time limit on the length of time a person can hold specific employment. This permits movement up the ladder for youth and fresh ideas.

A form of affirmative action for young people could be installed so the leadership ranks would be available to those who deserve the opportunity. At the same time employers could provide some enticing retirement packages for those who wish to opt out of the rat race early.

It also isn’t a vanity issue or self indulgent for people to want to extend their lives. Ask anyone close to your like your grandkids or friends, children or life mates if they want you around longer. It might be somewhat vain to contemplate immortality but the vast majority of those interested simply have a desire to be there loner for their loved ones.

Regardless of all the whining and allegations being made, there is precious little evidence that having a desire to live longer is immoral or something terrible. There is no case to support this and in fact it is a normal human condition to want to try and live longer for most. The species demands it. With that in mind, maintain your exercise regimen, offer support for regenerative medical research and find a source of sustainable income that pays well into your late nineties at least – you might need the money.

Aubrey de Grey, respected Geneticist from Cambridge University thinks that one thousand years is a reasonable expectation – and sooner than later. He says that aging is a physical occurrence that takes place in our bodies and eventually, as drugs get stronger we should start looking at aging as we do with many of today’s illnesses.

The world is getting closer to this point due to organizations like SENS [Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence] – a venture looking at age prevention and a cure for the same. This is not merely an proposal, but rather an in depth and thorough design to restore every kind of miniscule cell and molecular harm we accumulate over the years. There are actually methods of doing just this operating right now either in their initial stages or in more advanced forms up to clinical trials. There are existing technologies available that beckon for a combined effort.

It is thought that every portion of the program should be functioning in mice over the next decade and perhaps another ten years to see these same protocols functioning within human beings. When these treatments finally arrive we will not be witness to gradual frailty and independence loss as we grow old and succumb to the ravages of age connected disease. No doubt that we are eventually going to perish – auto accidents, some new virus, random shark attack – we just won’t see that long term decline that accompanies today’s deaths.

The obvious question is “will we see these in time if we are alive presently?” Most likely. Due to the fact the treatments are for the repair of harm built up over time they will be useable by those of us in middle age who are suffering from a good deal of this type of injurious harm. Some believe that that first thousand year old could possibly be about age sixty right now. The process is quite complex since the whole aging process is complicated.

Just now there are seven chief kinds of molecular and cellular harm that will gradually take its toll on us all. This includes those cells that disappear and are not replenished along with chromosome transmutation. These effects are all repairable utilizing technology that is currently available or is in the midst of production.

Younger Not Fragile

Our life expectancy will be far more unpredictable than it is today since many people pass away within a slim time range of roughly sixty five years old to about ninety years of age. The difference will be that people will not be getting more decrepit and fragile over time as is the case now. The median age will hover about a few thousand years or so. Certainly this is all speculative at best regarding ages but there is a basis for thought given the rate at which people are dying these days. As a teenager today who is conscious of risk, being raised in a well off, low crime neighborhood – their chance of death over the following 365 days is a good deal below one in a thousand meaning if things remained that way that person could have a fifty – fifty chance of surviving beyond one thousand. Also remember that at no time during this period would that person be living in a fragile and decrepit state. Rather you would feel younger, from a physical and mental perspective right up to the point of going for a swim with the sharks.

Should Aging Really Be Cured?

Finding the cure for aging would dramatically alter our cultures in so many ways. The mere thought of this coming to fruition paralyzes some with fear as they believe we should simply accept the fact that we age and die. Many in the field of longevity think this manner of thought is deplorable since it is disallowing people their right to living a long life. Our capacity to have the option of living or dying is a rudimentary right for all. Equally, the responsibility to provide others this option is a most rudimentary responsibility.

What is the difference between saving a life and extending it? Both are providing the person with still MORE life. Simply stating that we should not find a cure for aging is nothing but pure ageism – the thought that older persons are not worth the time and cost of medical treatment.

Is This Playing God?

Some naysayer’s think we will get quite bored however, one must remember we will also have the resources to vastly improve the lives of all so we live life to the fullest. Folks will get a great education as well as have the extra time to exploit it – not unlike many enjoy today. These same people will never find a lack of novel things to do. There are those who think this is too close to playing God and is absolutely against all laws of nature. It is also totally unnatural if we simply accept life and our world as it is.

Since the time we first saw flames licking up from a fire and pushed around a circular stone as a first wheel we have displayed our intrinsic need to repair things that need to be repaired regarding ourselves and our surroundings. We would be revolting against the most rudimentary part of what being a human truly is if we make the choice to become old and fragile not to mention dependent on those around us when we had the option of living extremely extended lives. If accepting change and altering things in our world is playing God – this is yet another manner in which God himself made us just like him.
