There is quite likely no more rapidly expanding market today as the anti aging treatment industry. People far and wide are actively trying to find that exact pill, therapy or treatment that will ensure smooth skin, healthier bodies; less hair loss, you name it. If it says it can reverse, slow or prevent aging, people will be giving the advertising a second look or trying the product out. People just want to look good as they age and that is their prerogative. The anti aging marketers are more than happy to oblige them.
As health food store shelves overflow with vanity products and bookshelves empty of the latest self help anti aging tome, medicine does its best to describe to us just what makes our bodies and minds tick when it comes to aging. As they research and study various theories, strategies for combating the aging process continue to emerge. Similar messages keep coming through about how we can live a longer life, be happier, and increase our health etc., all by changing something about our lives.
Long life tactics have been around for some time. Spend a few hours quizzing nursing home inhabitants about their secrets to longevity and everyone will claim to do something each day of their lives that contributed to their long life spans. Clinical studies have been conducted that try and determine why some people live longer than others with results varying from diet to hereditary factors and even mental attitudes toward aging. At the same time, products that boast anti aging properties do so based on little if any scientific evidence to back up their testimony.
Today there is a difference in the hyperbole from marketing companies and anti aging product manufacturers. Baby boomers make up the bulk of participants in this phenomenon, from being the consumers of the products, to the scientists conducting the research, and the business owners behind the products themselves. The very people who are investigating and partaking in the anti aging experience are the same ones who are counting on the success of the next breakthrough treatment or therapy. They provide the inducement, not just the money required for research and production.
For another forty or fifty years, the generation who had it all will want it all when it comes to anti aging products. They will be pouring their resources into finding the fountain of youth so they can have a better quality of life than their parents had. What was once an obscure specialty has now become big business and medical research into the study of aging and longevity is growing each day. Entire medical peer journals are dedicated to the science of it. Believe that all the data and knowledge acquired during these future convening years will form a base with which upcoming generations can grab the torch of anti aging and benefit from it all.
Still, much of what is available in anti aging treatments and therapies has not been verified by science and those carpetbaggers looking for the fast buck from an unfortunate public will be front and center. Aging consumers need to be inquisitive and cognitive about what they invest their money in when it comes to anti aging treatments. There are products out there than can be harmful to some and a waste of money to others. By remaining patient and observant with a touch of cynicism thrown in, we can expect that the excellence of the anti aging industry will continue to advance. The baby boomer generation, as entitled as they have ever been, would not have it any other way!
