How young is too young to begin worrying about getting old? Many young women are caught up in the anti aging trend and believe the earlier they begin to treat their skin against aging the better. Younger women just need to stop worrying about getting old because it is in fact bad for their skin and complexion.
That is according to a group of dermatologists from Great Britain who are worried that young people are damaging their skin due to needless use of anti aging products meant for an older clientele. These anti aging products as a rule are designed for a different variety of skin other than that of the vibrant and youthful consumers whose sensitive skin will suffer from using anti aging products.
Problems result from using heavier creams designed for people who have less sensitive epidermis, less youthful skin. Heavy creams will clog pores and avert the natural sweating process. As witnessed in some eczema patients when using a greasy type of skin product, they often become afflicted with occlusive folliculitis. This occurs when sweat is unable to discharge from congested pores resulting in red itching bumps on the skin, and when teens and younger age conscious consumers use heavy skin products, they could experience the same unsightly condition.
A recent survey suggests that upwards of one third of all women under twenty five years of age are consistent users of anti aging skin care products that are more commonly recommended for the over forty population.
This clogged pore syndrome is actually pretty mild in comparison to what has been seen in dermatologist offices. Today many products tout of sustaining a more youthful look via products that have high levels of retinoids and Alpha Hydroxy Acids or [AHA’s]. These ingredients can potentially have the reverse effect and kick start the aging process when used on those people with vivacious skin.
These substances are known as exfoliates and breakdown the primary layer of skin in order to accelerate the renewal rate of cell tissue. The method is quite popular for older clients using the products and they do slow the aging process in the right user. Needless use on younger skin will ultimately damage younger and more vulnerable skin. Initial damage appears in red and itchy skin with flaking apparent and the longer it is used the more likely this could result in UV sun damage.
Quite paradoxically, the increased photosensitivity will probably end up causing many of the same problems the anti aging creams were meant to evade – unequal pigmentation, age or liver spots and especially wrinkles according to study data.
However, youthful stubbornness combined with poor habits means it is likely younger people will not stop what they are doing to their skin, so dermatologists suggest they at least apply a minimum sun protection factor 15 sunscreen lotion daily. This will aid in blocking harmful UV rays and the free radical damage caused by exposure to the sun.
