Aging Men And Hormone Replacement Therapy

When men begin to lose their hair it is a sign of andropause. Andropause has been called male menopause among other things but there are no similarities to the female version. It is actually caused from a reduction in hormone productivity from the various male glands. It begins when a man hits his forties and fifties.

The word androgen means those hormones which are mainly responsible for male distinctive qualities. The most recognizable of these androgens is testosterone and there are others. The word andropause simply relates to the slowing or pausing of androgens in the male system. In the female body they literally have a cessation of sexual organ function, thankfully, this does not happen in men however both genders will have a decrease in hormones. Some men may undergo some erectile dysfunction as a result of less testosterone but this is certainly treatable unlike when a women’s sex organs begin to fade.

Along with a loss of hair, men will also undergo a reduction in muscle mass and lose some strength, their libido may suffer, insomnia, nervousness, depression, lack of vigor, weight gain, all these can be consequences of andropause. The question we need to ask is if these symptoms are unavoidable. Is there anything at all that can reverse the process?

Physicians can prescribe hormone replacement therapy for women when they suffer menopausal symptoms that become overwhelmingly uncomfortable. A hormone replacement regimen is just effective for a man. A requirement of this is knowing which hormone and what amount needs to be replenished, not always just testosterone. These hormones being replaced also need to be precisely the same – or bioidentical – to what is manufactured by the body.

There is a clinical testing process which a man undergoes to learn exactly the type of hormone he is lacking in and the required dosage necessary to replace them. Every male is unique so there are certain issues such as diet, age and others which can impact the hormonal deficiency. Bioidentical hormones means the exact match of hormone that is produced by the male body. Often many of the hormones on the market are not the same and it becomes significant then that the hormones entering your body are equal to what your body is producing at whatever capacity.

The principle behind hormone replacement is to replenish the lost hormones in the body to the level they were once at in a more youthful body. The entire process of replacing hormone levels in a man, the testing, assessment process, and eventual replacement of hormones can mean a huge improvement in a male that has been going through the effects of low hormone levels. The unwanted weight gain, lack of energy, and disinterest in life, insomnia and the loss of hair, the reversal of these symptoms is a powerful feeling to those men who experience it. Some have called it a rebirth – the youthful feeling of vim and vigor returning.

When one is given hormone replacement therapy, they inject vitality and health into their life. Middle age is a joyful experience once again and even looming old age does not seem that dreadful but rather adventurous. Thousands of men have undergone hormone replacement and are much better for it. If symptoms seem to bother some men they should investigate it for themselves.
